I will take issue with WW on this one.
I was thinking in French. The word pronounces itself in my head and dictates the spelling.
Somehow or other the English Language has interfered with it and changed the original spelling derived from the the French verb agrandir. So only one g is correct and this is the version used in the Guide to Etiquette.
Not that anyone ever reads this thread except as an exercise in overwhelming nostalgia.
