Subject to planning
I'm sure I think when I first attended there were 36 lamps per pylon. Possibly down to 4 on a pole. The iconic skyline will be no more.

Keep the pylons with dummy lights at the top. Place the LED strip lower down where it needs to go.

Eiffel Tower has small lights all over it which at night light up and sparkle every 15 minutes. Tourist attraction. Do that with the pylons bring the tourists to the city.

They had already reduced the number of floodlights by the time I started going. Here is what they looked like in all their glory. Iron curtain numbers of bulbs.

I think the original nine per pylon set were replaced in the early/mid seventies with new towers and possibly 16 lamps. They were again upgraded to the present set-up during GT's era.

I've commented about this previously, but as a youngster, going to a midweek floodlit match, the grass always looked greener than in daylight, the players kit always looked brighter and to add to all that, the aroma of wintergreen oil* wafting up to the terraces completed the experience.
Those pylons will be missed.....
*Those of us of a certain age remember this. It wouldn't feature anywhere in our 'modern day' game.

Just a pity that the UK workforces reluctance to work throughout that decade meant they weren't allowed to turn them on that often.

I remember many years back, talking to an old chap, electrician, who said that during his apprenticeship when the lights were first installed , it was the job of the young lads to man the pylons during a game, their job was to replace the blown bulbs as quickly as possible because if to many bulbs went and not replaced in time, the whole lot would just blow. How true I do not know, wasn’t around when they were installed.

That is wonderful. Gave you a bit of an uneasy feeling though on his behalf. If they were still the bulbs that got used, he said that they were 1.5kW bulbs. So if there are 36x4 that would be 216kWh. So over three hours you would be looking at £175 at current domestic rates. I think. Roughly 1.5 months of your average houses electricity per match. I guess the new floodlights will be LEDs.

How were we going to sort it all out in a short time when it appears the contract over the masts is still to run for 18 months? Surely there’s a way around it, because the present lights are not really adequate and are not helping stadium development.

Can't see any reason why the new pylons and lights can go up while the old towers remain until the telecoms contracts expire.
