The standard of football has been largely good I think this season. Still too many percentage hoofs for my liking, but it's definitely been watchable. Just thinking back again to some of the Conference games when there was a lot dreadful stuff on offer. Apart from those 2 seasons.

Reluctantly I reckon this is possibly true. Thinking back to how utterly shit some of those teams were back then in the conference. And again, how we sometimes couldnt compete. It would be interesting to compare this seasons attendances with that first season in the Conference. I reckon this one might just nick it. Certainly the top 10 teams. The other thing that is probably more professional now at this Joint Division 6 level than the old Division 5 level is the number of full time teams. That is nuts now, which bemuses us on here on a regular basis.

NLN this season. Conference this season (was way worse last when Wrexham and Notts County were in it). Not sure why this appeared again below? Need to wait for IT to sober up. Monkey Tennis!

Attendance doesn’t necessarily equal results. And attendance doesn’t necessarily equal budget either. I keep reading Tamworth have won the league so it’s a failure that we don’t. Simplistic view that annoys the hell out of me. Equally it annoys me when people think we haven't got the infrastructure in place to compete higher up. I will not accept National League North as Herefords "fate" Come back to this post next season when Tamworth are 10 points adrift at the bottom. But fair play to them for storming it this season. No we absolutely can be a league club and can be a competitive conference side too. I just don’t think our ‘status’ means all that much anymore. We are an attractive option though for a semi pro based in the West mids so that is an avenue we must use to our utmost advantage.

Just found some more numbers on the late 90s conference era. I believe the average gate across everyone in our first season was 1475. This season in the NLN it is circa 1200. So the Conference whilst it had similar "big team" attendances had less of the 500 averaging teams. However Sugar Daddies were surely less of a factor back then? Just Rushden massively stuck out. One of the best non league away grounds (RIP).
Out of interest the 103 goal season that also contained Shrewsbury had an average of 1905. At the time a record.
It has steadily grown from there as it smells more and more football league division 5 and less plucky teams where the BBC visit the bricklaying striker on site on the Thursday before his big FA Cup match on the Saturday.
A team averaging 1475 now would be the 18th best supported team in the National League (Wealdstone).

Just looked at National league table and based on my growing up days many years ago, for me about 10 or 11 are proper old school league clubs, then you look at the leagues above and I could pick out a similar number of whom for me did not exist as a proper league club in those days.

Very classy of Caddis to give credit to our backroom staff as well, rather than claim the credit for himself as some managers would. Even if we don't make the play offs I still reckon this has been a successful season in that there seems to have developed a bond between the fans, players and staff that was distinctly lacking during the previous managers' rain

Top bloke He says it as it is, which is such a change. As above we will miss him when he leaves. Great credit to him and other staff who have resurrected a dying club.

I’m disappointed we haven’t made the play offs for all the reasons others have mentioned. I suppose it was always going to be difficult with an entirely new squad and manager and then losing Willow pre-season. Next season will see the beginning of development of Edgar Street and Paul will have had a good look at what it takes to get out of this league. It will remain difficult with a resurgent Darlington and all the usual suspects trying to strengthen and it’s not lost on me that teams from the south are severely hampered by massive long journeys to many away games. All that said we are a very big fish in this pond, Chester demand success and we have consistently had bigger attendances than them for many years. Caddis is a breath of fresh air, the football is very watchable but every job comes with pressure and next season is a massive one for Paul and Hereford.

Caddis has done brilliantly this year on a tiny budget.
We've come unstuck against a few streetwise teams, but restructuring over the summer will ensure we kick on definitely.
This league is horrible.

Caddis has done brilliantly this year on a tiny budget. Caddis has done well but "on a tiny budget", really? Our budget must be considerably higher than Alfreton's or Curzon Ashton's but they're both sitting in play off places and we're not.

The "tiny" budget did actually include three or four commendable gambles.
Willo is on £2,000 per week. Cowley £1,750 per week.
One imagines that Rooney is on more than that.
