bullsnews.blogspot.com/2024/05/old-hufc-programmes.htmlThere you go. Due to Hawkeyes refusal to get Snapchat and Tiltok I will be chucking the old programmes on some website that specialises in saucy old photos called Bulls News. It will hopefully prevent me from wiping out all the photo space on here as well. Shitting dogs have rights too. Planning on putting them up pretty regularly (2-3 a week through the close season certainly) then it will maybe settle down to days that have less happening on the pitch. I can put a link on here each time as we still need need to hear your goldust memories. There will also be a tiny bit of repetition from what I have put up on here so far sorry. Enjoy! I've been searching for Tiltok but am unable to find it anywhere. 😉 Nice work on Bulls News, WL. 👍

bullsnews.blogspot.com/2024/05/old-programmes-hereford-utd-v.htmlAnd we're off. Planning on keeping em coming. Every other day during this dead bit, then maybe every Monday/Friday when the football is back up and running. Please anecdote this up. Were you a member? Did you ever win the raffle? Did you use the away travel? What about the reserve team games? And so on.

This is a bit of a top quality stat fest to get lost in. We down below the grown up leagues. 110th all time. That seems about right. Lower half of the league above. Crowds have been growing steadily but we still hover around the 2500 mark. www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/englandcontent.htm

Sheffield Wednesday and any of the North East big three have massively underperformed amongst others.

Old Programmes – Hereford Utd v Gillingham – Fourth Division – Saturday 16/9/72 A crowd of 6796 watch Hereford settle for their second consecutive goalless draw in the league at Edgar Street. From Bulls News via WL
On the Pitch: Colin Addison reflects on the recent 4-1 defeat at Lincoln and highlights the different gravy that Division 4 is to the previous season's Southern League campaign. Lessons that United would most definitely go on to learn.
An inauspicious start to the Football League for the club and us fans. Having travelled to Colchester, Villa in the League Cup and Crewe and seeing us lose all three I decided to give that Lincoln away game a miss. A good escape as it turned out after a 4-1 battering.
Instead we went to St Andrews to watch Birmingham v Man City.
An absolute cracker with Blues winning 4-1 including a Bob Latchford hat-trick and a young Trevor Francis in a starring role.

Black Beauty on a Saturday WL? I thought it was on late afternoon / early evening Sunday? Not that I ever watched it of course.

I will be dragging that bleeding theme tune round all day now.
Saying that Mouldy Old Dough is lurking as a No.1 shortly, then we are all done.
That is what I intend making the format. A bit of me prattling on then into the gold dust screen shots. Any suggestions please fire away.

I wonder if anyone squirrelled away newspaper match reports of the time, Hereford Evening News or Sunday papers. Remarkably when you consider today’s wall to wall Premiership coverage, in those days you could expect to see a report of your own team in the Sunday’s. I also particularly remember in the 75/76 season half page reports on the back page of the Daily Mail for our aways at Peterborough (smashed them 3-0) and the loss at Cardiff.

Yes my late Father started scrapbooks of match reports for me from News of the World on a Sunday. Green Un and Sports Argus on the Saturday evening, must dig them out. Have boxes of programmes from those early Football league years. Used to love going to the Football Combination games to with regular crowds over 2000 for the reserves.

The below is out of the Hereford v Cambridge Programme (3/2/73). A couple of questions? I remember as a kid going up in the LW maybe once or twice, but perhaps not until the mid 80s. The faded orange and blue seats were up there then (was that their colour?). Does anyone remember the named seats? Also as an aside I seem to recall that the season tickets up there were a bit cheaper than the main stand. Finally. Once we know what it would take to get a BE stand built it would be great to see a bit of fundraising and a number grow. A similar "these people put in a few quid" touch somewhere in there would be a good touch. One day obviously. I would put in a fiver!

I can answer number one question, yes the mid 80’s blue and orange were the original seats. Despite having the 72/73 season programmes locked away in a store, I’ve really enjoyed the articles WL has posted on BN. My first experience of the LW was the Crewe promotion game. The only other times in those seats were Preston in 74/75 (Bobby Charlton) and the 75/76 games v Palace and Brighton. Didn’t set foot in Merton stand until the 1994/95 Forest League Cip game!

Just to echo sentiments above, I'm also enjoying the old programme articles on BN.
Nice one WL, please keep 'em coming.

I was a Hogs Mount attendee back in the days.
Anyone else remember the chap with the ventriloquists dummy that used to stand there.
Also in the days before replica kits one lady had a superb knitted HUFC shirt( the Radford type).
I have the HUFC v Newcastle programme with my late dads scrawl on it,a line through several Newcastle players through them, and the written replacements.

Is it okay to make ones own scrawl in a match programme? Only on the "today's teams" page to illustrate any late changes to the starting lineups.

Do you remember when the building at the back of the BE was removed? The one that looked like a pavilion? I know it was still standing when Hereford played Newcastle as it is in a photo of the fans queuing for tickets.

Right then the Herefordian Ask Jeeves.
How much was it to get into Edgar Street in the early 70s? League matches/season tickets/even the Newcastle game. Get them cogs whirring please.
I know that getting into football was cheaper in general, just wondered if anyone has any figures to hand?
Cheers

No certain figures to back this up but I seem to remember first league season 72/73 was 40 pence adults, 20 pence juniors to stand on the terraces.
