Some familiar names at the Street during that first league season.

I just thought. You know the fan thing "Doing the 92", as a player and manager Graham Turner must have got pretty close to doing that.

Going back to the second ever league game at ES. Workington 2/9/72. A historic photo on the front cover, plus impressive numbers in the retained original stand where Radfords is now. Check out the reserves in the managers notes.

Workington. One side we didn’t beat that season, in fact they were the team that ended our long winter unbeaten run. Probably their last good season. This nostalgia thread is great.

I’d been before but was locked out well before kickoff. ref eric redrobe comments earlier - uniteds run started when he arrived at Edgar street , he really was the catalyst for promotion.

Jumping about a bit sorry. I think you did a fair bit of jumping about that first season so quite apt I suppose. From the front cover of the Boxing Day fixture. High flyers Southport in a game that attracted 10491 fans who witnessed a 2-2 draw. The Managers notes reveal Redrobe couldn't play against his old club. Due to either injury or illness, it doesn't say. Anyone win the car? Or the Teddy bears? The front cover photo, the lack of spectators stood out. It was a friendly against York to make use of the blank FA Cup second round Saturday by the looks (16/12). 3134 to witness a 4-2 defeat. The groundsman would have been thrilled looking at that photo.

Taken from the Hereford v Bradford programme. Saturday 6th January 1973. News on the Len Weston stand speakers getting sorted out. Also a report on the reverse fixture earlier in the season. The table shows Hereford starting to get a bit of traction. I am guessing the P word would have started to be muttered once 73 started to get into gear. I didn't realise how soon after getting in the league the Len Weston got built. I know we had that stat that we were the only club outside the top flight that had two stands with cantilevered roofs. I am sure it was that. It would also explain why the ground remains so cutting edge to this day 😃.

A lot to unpack in the Supporters Club Jottings in the March 10th 73 Exeter Programme. Plus a photo from earlier in the season showing a gloriously packed "Radford's Corner". Some excellent adverts as a bonus seeing as it's sunny.

Right I promise I will do the rest of these in chronological order. Starting with a photo off the cover of the Worcs Senior Cup Final 1st Leg v Kiddie. The book says we lost 1-0 in front of 2293 on Weds 13/9/72. The return fixture we drew 3-3 in front of only 1346 (2/10). The club shop price list was inside. Possibly my favourite thing I have unearthed so far.

From Gillingham 16/9/72. They are in that league 50+ years later. Finished 12th. A rare thing in stadium development. Some plans that actually made it to fruition. Also more complaints of naughtiness. Something you associate with the latter end of the decade. Although I remember with the Newcastle recollections it was mentioned a number of times. Fred Potter. A great name that. What was the Slinget?

Now I have learnt how a calendar works we move onto the Torquay game 30/9/72. More trouble. This time with builders (this was pre them dicking around on their phones as well). Season tickets for seats that didn't exist, and the ground being too rammed to get to the pies. Again the Supporters Club page is brilliant stuff.

Kiddie had Peter and Brendan Wassall in their ranks. I am wondering if they are anything to do with Birmingham born 55 year old Darren Wassall?

More from the Hartlepool programme. He isn't a name that I recognise? Remember the chippy by the swimming baths though. Top chippy as a kid. Looks like they were the forerunner to Beefy Boys, invading neighbouring towns.

Brendan Wassall is Darren Wassall's father. Peter Wassall had a brief spell at ES but returned to Kidderminster as HUFC " couldn’t appreciate his talent."

bullsnews.blogspot.com/2024/05/old-hufc-programmes.htmlThere you go. Due to Hawkeyes refusal to get Snapchat and Tiltok I will be chucking the old programmes on some website that specialises in saucy old photos called Bulls News. It will hopefully prevent me from wiping out all the photo space on here as well. Shitting dogs have rights too. Planning on putting them up pretty regularly (2-3 a week through the close season certainly) then it will maybe settle down to days that have less happening on the pitch. I can put a link on here each time as we still need need to hear your goldust memories. There will also be a tiny bit of repetition from what I have put up on here so far sorry. Enjoy!
