Another memory about that time was a mid season hike in admission prices caused by the imposition of VAT presumably as the Commin Market was joined or in preparation for. If we can persuade WL to continue into old Div 3 maybe we can find out when as I am sure I can recollect Phil Godsall dedicating one of the Supporters Club reports to the issue.

I will but back off with the VAT revelation. That was my news of the day item for the next one π! Based on what I have been lazily able to find from around that time it was a pretty grim year. Basically death and inflation. Northern Ireland was in a pretty horrible place. You are lucky buggers. I have just knocked up the Peterborough game for Monday. Promotion looking good, did anyone go on the league liner train to Torquay? I am loving doing it. I have been taking the pictures with a camera. Will see what they look like with a scanner at some point and try and find a way of archiving them somewhere. There are a few missing also, so I will see if I can borrow them off someone and photograph them up. I will also at the end of the season (about four programmes left) do all the adverts as they are great. Finally. Someone on Twitter said that the Colchester game was their first ever game. LWLS (Len Westons Last Stand). You can't contact them on Twitter, but that name sounds familiar. If anyone knows them and they haven't got it, they are welcome to it. Spiritually I am only borrowing them anyway.

Humble apologies WL for infringing your editorial parameters! But donβt stop, the race up the leagues in the early to mid 70βs was great and so is looking back at the social side of things.

It should really get going when the club implodes.
I will repeat something I have said a few times. I always thought the programmes were a bit naff at the time (although I am 80s onwards), but they contain some amazing info. I guess it was the amount of ads.
Chuck in a bit of Are You Being Served and Slade and not even I can cock it up.
MT sent me something brilliant last night relating to this also. I will ask him if I can chuck it on here.

In the programme I put up on Monday (see link) I mentioned an international match that was advertised that was being played at Coventry City's place. bullsnews.blogspot.com/2024/08/old-programmes-hereford-utd-v.htmlHow about this for a bit of small worldness? Off the one they call MT... My Dad went to that Northern Ireland v Portugal game at Highfield Rd in 73. I have the programme. π Very stylishly presented also. He reckons the advert on the third photo proves Covs credentials as a selling club.

Just jogged my memory I went to school with a kid in the 60s who dad was something to do with Coventry city. He would turn up at school the next day with a programme from the previous game. Old first division games.

Just jogged my memory I went to prison with a kid who's dad was something to do with Coventry city. He would turn up at prison the next visit with a programme from the previous game. Old first division games. OMG that's MT. Small world.

Never seen again. He survived the first weekend, but only because you thought he meant at night.

Right then, I appreciate if you want to deny having been on it, but what was the fancy Leagueliner train to Torquay 24/4/73 like? The only reason I ask is that it must have been utter mayhem. The Newport programme (7/4/73) has revealed the timetable. Get a bit of this for potential prolonged heavy drinking... Departs Hereford 09:00 Arrives Torquay 12:45 Leaves Torquay 22:40 Arrives Hereford 02:30

The leagueliner was fully booked, so we booked a minibus to take about 10 of us, with Davy Crockett's Golden Valley Motors IIRC, but I've got it in my head that it was a Bank Holiday Monday. However, that date is the day after the bank holiday. I do recall that the train got back to Hereford before we did.

Right then, this was in the last programme of the 72-73 season, the promotion game. How come I have never heard this little gem? Anyone go/know anything about it?
