Of course your opinion must be respected, as with others who think likewise. But surely Hereford United died in December 2014 and, unless you believe in reincarnation, this is indeed a new club. Just as we remember and honour the dead of two world wars and other conflicts, I see no reason why we cannot cherish the memory and history of the old club. Telling me I'm "surely" wrong doesn't feel much like respect to me. But unwittingly you've hit upon the perfect metaphor. HUFC was indeed reincarnated. Thanks.

On the contrary, they are The Lilywhites. Never been changed officially.

Mind you, there have been some nefarious goings on that have tried my patience to the limit at times! What like? Perhaps the very foundation of your club which was set up by your lads (inc Muno) prior to the death of United? Or the men in black style owners who weren't revealed until the anti-fan AoA was published? The second class shares for fans which hold no power? Or the owners rejecting a HUST board member? Or the owners rejecting an equal share on the board despite HUST having put in significantly more money than the owners ever did? I thought your principles were firmly against these kind of things? United has gone. Just get on with supporting your team.

Yes, the model is shit, but is the traditional way with one (hopefully) benevolent owner any better? It is if you're Wrexham (this year), but not if you're Reading (but it was great a few years back when someone else's dough bankrolled a few seasons in the Prem).

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know."

I can't see the lanyards allowing a name change, but, it would be wrong to dismiss the debate as mere semantics. It clearly means a lot to some folk on both sides of the fence, but whatever the club is called, I agree with Som. Same ground, same kit, same fans, and even for a while, some same players. Also, being fair to the current board, they're excellent at recognising and acknowledging the best of HUFC's history - I don't think they look upon HFC as a totally different entity.
Looking around ES and the occasional awayday, I see a lot of faces who've been around forever, but very encouraged to see so many new ones enjoying themselves. Obviously having a product that is working helps, but in terms of numbers and noise, there are many periods when HUFC would have been delighted with, and taken in a heartbeat what's happening on the pitch right now*. Long may it last, recognising that it's football, and it's Hereford, so it probably won't. Bottom line - I won't be losing any sleep on what it says on the docs at Companies House, as long as I'm still allowed to sit in B Block and bellow 'Come on United'.
*Acknowledging that it is still, at least one tier below that at which HUFC existed since I was a nipper.

The season in the Southern League Div 1 (1963/64?) must have been before his nipperage.

Would there be any legal cost in becoming Hereford United fc? If not then why not go for it and maybe keep everyone happy It would certainly give more credence to claiming the great history of Hereford United

Bound to be a legal cost of some amount. Therefore it's a No from francobull.
