100% change it back. No doubt about it.
To add to the earlier discussion, there's several more recent examples than Newport, even one of Darlington in our own league

Didn't Darlington pay off a load of debt to retain the history?

I think it should stay as it is, or if it has change just drop the "FC" nonsense - even the BBC seem to have managed to do that without too much effort.
There are, as we know, still fans of the former Hereford United who refuse to accept the current occupants of Edgar Street as a continuation of Hereford United (some of them may even contribute to this board) and their opinions should be acknowledged. To change back to Hereford United now, just because the club might legally be allowed so to do, is perhaps disrespectful to them.

Throughout the footballing world everyone still calls us Hereford United in the same way that everyone calls Accrington Accrington Stanley rather than Accrington FC.
It's not a massive issue but, given the choice, I would favour a return to the old name which would be another step towards making us a "proper" club again.

The "FC" nonsense is rammed down our throats by the club.

There's a reason for that

The main problem would be that "United" does not rhyme with "cider countreeeee", as in "Hereford FC from.........."

We sing Hereford United we all love you we don't sing Hereford FC we all love you. Change it back. If it means that much to you what are you prepared to donate towards the cost? The overall expense to change may well have been exaggerated but to simply change signage, stationery, logos etc, etc, would not be cheap. We know the team we now support is Hereford FC not United. Let it rest in peace.

Let it rest in peace. Far from letting it 'rest in peace' my support is contingent on it being the same club. I never thought, "Oh, the old club has died, but here's a brand new one I can support". I respect the opinions of others who might disagree, just so long as they allow space for my feelings too. Mind you, there have been some nefarious goings on that have tried my patience to the limit at times!

Of course your opinion must be respected, as with others who think likewise. But surely Hereford United died in December 2014 and, unless you believe in reincarnation, this is indeed a new club. Just as we remember and honour the dead of two world wars and other conflicts, I see no reason why we cannot cherish the memory and history of the old club.

'Mon the Jags!
Seriously I have always considered Hereford_FC to be a placeholder, but if there is expense involved, don't do it until it is affordable. Who wants an AFC Hereford? I am more than happy with the demonstrations of continuity and if this really was a new entity with no history, I would not have anything to do with it. Rangers is my model - they get slagged off constantly for being a "new club" with one championship but nobody outside the Old Firm quagmire buys that. Owning businesses and football teams you support are different entities, after all there were two interchangeable Hereford Uniteds. If Hereford United is "resting in peace" then I am no longer a fan.
A dodgy property company went bust. Moooove on.

if it was a new club, would it not have begun its path by application to play in the Herefordshire Football league?

No, legally it was Hereford United 1939 Ltd that wound up in December 2014. AFAIK a simple name change would not require any significant expense save for changing the branding on the website and the club badge.
