The 70s were ace.
And I'll happily swap my Chopper for a Packet of Spangles and some jumping beans to anyone who can prove me wrong.

I'm sure the whippersnappers find their own ways of having fun, Monkey. No more or less than we did. Just not at Edgar Street.

Look, you can take the p8ss out of people who think it was better in the 1970s and if I hadn't been there I'd do exactly the same. But the fact remains that we had 8,000-17,000 crowds at Edgar Street, we had the super-skilful Brian Evans who was a Welsh international, Dudley Tyler who went to West Ham, Steve Emery, Dixie McNeill who was the top scorer in the whole country. We had T-Rex Telegram Sam, we had The Isley Brothers "Highways of my Life." Then we had Punk. And football-wise we are now living in a tame age. That's just a fact. Sorry you missed it. And in a way I'm sometimes sorry for myself that I didn't miss it. Because if I hadn't been there I'd never have put up with so much sh&t on and off the field ever since. (And don't even get me started on how great the Brazil 1970 team were, and how great the disco music era was for sheer fun getting together with girls.) Obviously things are great now in many different ways. But not for football. Not at Hereford. You forgot Park Hall, Wormelow.

Think i was there! Thin Lizzy were good at the Winter Gardens. But my favourite ever there was The Undertones..."Jump Boys!"

I was there for the Undertones.
Off the top of my head saw Frankie Miller, the Undertones, the Fall, Stiff Little Fingers (twice), Elvis Costello,Radio Stars, the Jam, Otway and Barrett there. My long suffering Dad used to drive me over from Ross, drop me off, then go for an Indian, until I passed my driving test in 1980.
Now my son picks me up from gigs-usually in his dressing gown and slippers. He's old before his time.

Did Eddie and the Hot Rods play there. I remember seeing the Reaction who later became Talk Talk supporting someone.

Thanks for that Colebridge. Nick Ratcliffe's right, I remember the Undertones supporting and Sharkey hovering in the background. But i also think they came back and headlined a year or two later? Could be wrong. Best band I ever saw supporting? U2 supporting Talking Heads, Hammersmith Odeon, 1980 or 1981. U2 were raw then, not like now. Talking Heads blew them off the stage, obviously. Remain in Light tour. Out of body experience.

I saw The Cramps support The Police at Digbeth Civic Hall in Birmingham in about 1978 and the Cramps lead singer pulled his c*ck out and started playing with it, and my girlfriend at the time tried to insist we move back a bit because we were in the front row and she didn't want to be sp*nked on, but i said no way, if you have to cop a bit just live with it, I'm not missing The Police front row, just cos you're getting a bit twitchy. Anyway the Cramps lead singer never reached any kind of crescendo and neither did his sh*t band. ThePolice were fantastic. That was before Sting disappeared up his own a*rse.
