I cannot believe what I have just read in the HT. a football club manager asking the supporters how they want the team to play. Come on Peter Beadle. You are the main paid to lead this club, recruit the players to win football matches and ideally get us promoted out of this cabbage patch standard of football. 5 matches in you are saying, "what shall I do?". "I don't want to play like everyone else, but I will, if you want me to."
five minutes later we have made an approach for a defender widely touted on this very forum. The fans are picking the side already. Why pay £25k (a guess) to a so called manager if all he does is ask the fans. Shocking. Professional football, more like a pub team or the supporters team. Where's Oxo? Have a go at it Oxo.
Would Clough or Ferguson or Mourinho ask the fans. No of course not. We respect them as the professional experts to get the job done. If they don't, we expect them to be moved on.
"how do you want to play?" FFS. Get a grip Beadle. Stop whinging about how the opposition play and counter it. They have been more successful than you to date! But 5 matches in - come on. Man up or F. Off.

I think it's great they've listened to the fans (if they have, it was obvious to everyone though that we needed a new defender). We moan when they don't listen and nothing is done, so I view this as very positive. You can't compare us to teams like Man U or Chelsea. We're a community club and it's fantastic that the fans are listened to. If we pull this signing off it will be a fantastic boost for the team.

I think the OP has totally missed the subtleties in PB's comments. Its more "damned if i do, damned if I don't".

Then yellowjersey90 Your ambitions for this club are limited. I suspect if, when this lad plays next week at Edgar Street on a big decent pitch and we play football on the deck, he will be exposed as the standard of player he really is. Tall, but limited. The challenge is surely to play around these defenders not sign them all! Ok maybe not compare with Chelsea, Man Utd but would Sillett or Addison feel they should ask the supporters how the team should play? I don't think so nor would I have expected them to.

Colebridgebull. I understand the comments perfectly well. Peter is covering his bases. He now has a way out. "I wanted to play on the deck, but the fans wanted hoof ball. That's why I had to leave." Or worse still in my opinion, every victory now will be down to the fans picking the team/style of play so Beadle is a lame duck. He shouldn't have shown his cards this early but he has and will have to handle the consequences. Much stronger to have said, whilst I'm here we will play the right way. I will sort it, even if personnel needs to be changed. Instead of whinging about the opposition. Not professional in my view.

We are not a community club (above). Couldn't be bothered to do the "quote" thing.

But why can't we have the 'big defenders' and still play good football. I don't want centre halves who can dribble the ball the whole pitch and play a killer pass. I want a defender who as the name suggests, defends. We have enough creativity in the team to still play good football, and not result to hoof ball. If Jamie does sign he will take away the long ball threat that we have been so vulnerable to over the last few games, as well as offer a physical presence which is severely lacking right now.

I have always said, that from a personal point of view, all I have ever wanted from a Hereford team(in whatever manifestation) is that they get stuck in, look as if they want to play for us and bloody try. I don't particularly care if it's entertaining (although that would be acceptable if we are steaming to victory), but I want commitment first and foremost. If Beadle is incapable of instilling that in this team, in this league, and with the players at his disposal, then there has to be changes somewhere......

As far as I'm aware, you don't get points for looking good and losing. I'm pretty sure you get some points for looking shit and winning.
There is no decision to make.

That's a questionable attitude for a global moderator, suggesting that people who disagree with you shouldn't post. Just as Beadle's turning into Foyle, looks like you're turning into Martin Watson! You know full well that's not what I was saying.

I thought it was a rhetorical question personally.
Incidently. Beadles earnings are attendance linked. Does that make attractive football or results more important to him ?

The battlefields of football are littered with the shattered corpses of teams that 'went over the top' in an entertaining way, only to be mercilessly mowed down by hairy chested getstuckinners.....
