If she was ginger are we allowed to chant then? Or what about if she was fat or would that be fattist? What about if she was ginger and fat... Uh, no you aren't? Why would you want to abuse people on the basis of their appearance? People literally kill themselves because of scumbags like you. You're a bully mate. People kill themselves because of scumbags like me? I'm a bully? I am not for one minute suggesting these remarks are ok but was making the point that all of these things are wrong yet fat comments are often accepted. The fact that half the meadow end were chanting 'you fat bast*rd makes them all bullies too? I totally resent your slanderous remarks being called a bully. Please think carefully about your choice of words next time.

And like I said, its for her to decide whether it's abuse or not and to decide what action to take unless of course you don't think women are capable of making such judgements without your intervention. Bizarre comment. Just because it's directed at her doesn't mean others won't find it offensive.

There are those that won't find it offensive and those that will.
So far this season there have been threads about sexism and racism with a lot of people condeming both, that's progress as far as I'm concerned as it wasn't so long ago it wouldn't have been highlighted. Although it's a shame that there's had to be threads about them in the first place.
Unfortunately, those that don't see a problem with it won't change their mindset. It's the same with smokers/anti smokers, pro Union/anti Union etc but there is an increasing number of those opposed. Is the problem solved? No. But is it positive progress? Yes.

That's your opinion, you're entitled to it, although I'm afraid I think it's symptomatic of the growing number in our society who live to take offence on others behalf, even when the only person who could or should take offence doesn't give two hoots.

In the 1970s, there was a young lady who used to work in the canteen up the back of the Meadow End. In order to get there she used to approach from the Edgar Street side, and walk through the untenanted area behind the goal and make her way up the terraces of the Meadow End to the back. There were often huge crowds in that Meadow End, as we know. Usually, when she surfaced behind the goal in the space below the baying mass, she would routinely be greeted by very loud chants of "You Black Bustard". And a heck of lot of people used to join in, believe you me. Sorry, but it did happen, and I'm sure there will be some who read this who will remember it happening, just like I do. (I think the lady is still about Hereford these days. Perhaps some of you know her?)
I have often thought about it. It frightens me that "we" were so Neanderthal in those days. It was utterly shameful.
It wouldn't happen now - well, not outside Russia anyway. We have made some progress, thank goodness.
I think the tits thing could be argued to be amusing, but no, on balance, I think it's pretty 1970s as well. Not good. Not so bad as the racist thing, but not good. In my opinion.
(Oh. Please try to ignore my avatar when reading this).

Opinions are like arseholes eh?! Equally I find your opinion to be of the old dinosaur variety, that thankfully for my two young daughters growing up in this ever changing world, is very much dying out. We know better now. I know what your thinking - 'Political correctness gone maaaad mate! If I wanna scream at a young lady for her to get her tits out, that's my prerogative.' Archaic attitude now grandad.

(Oh. Please try to ignore my avatar when reading this). Wain, I don't remember this happening, but I well remember, in the late 60s early 70s, when the Police walked in front of the ME, chants of "Harry Roberts is our King, is our king, is our King. Harry Roberts is our King, he kills coppers" (to the tune of London bridge is Falling Down). For our younger Forumers, Harry Roberts was an east end gangster involved in the killing 3 police officers (he killed 2 of them).
To my eternal shame, I joined in on these chants. As a 14/15 year old I had not experienced the tragedy of losing friends and work colleagues protecting the public. I since have, and I've also experienced members of the public shouting how glad they were that my colleagues had died. I couldn't hammer the culprits, as it would have been considered unprofessional. I realise how stoic those coppers were in not rushing into the ME and belting seven bells out of us.
Hopefully, the people making the abusive chants, last night, were also young and did not realise the distress they could cause, and will grow out of it. However, this sort of sexist attitude is becoming more prevalent whenever a group of males are gathered, stag dos for example, where you would have hoped that they had grown out of it. They take on a pack mentality, and behave very differently to the way they would if they were on their own, or in a group of, say, 3 or 4. I wonder why.

Ghostrunner, thanks for your insightful response (albeit a tad sanctimonious) and assessment of my character, as with the previous comments that resorted to personal insults, I will consider it, laugh at it and ignore it !!
If you bothered to read anything I had said previously, you will have seen that I do not partake in such juvenile chanting, didn't in the 80's and don't now. The only difference is I don't choose to get my knickers in a twist about something so trivial and blow everything out of proportion. I also choose not to assume offence on others behalf I will leave that to those that are the focus of the comments to decide whether they are offended, they are more than capable of doing so and to suggest otherwise is sexist in the extreme.
I too have two daughters and I'm sure they would be equally irritated by the notion that they are not able to make a judgement for themselves. I'm sure they would also be level headed enough to see things for what they are,and not rely on a middle aged man to tell them what they should and should not be offended by and what they should and should not consider sexist.
I hope that all those that are up on their high horses will analyse and critique all of the other chants the have been sung in recent times, a certain one about Peter Beadle springs to mind where wives are being offered to the manager as though they are objects that are owned, I think we all know the one I'm talking about, funny how we've never had a thread about that, or is it the selective offence kicking in again !!

Either way, whether it be right or wrong, I think we can all agree that "get your tits out for the lads" is a shit chant.

Well said sir. I find it ironic that those most irritated by this have resorted to personal insults to both you and I.

Not funny, not clever, and, given some of the recent offerings from the Meadow End (The Lonsdale Sat Nav one was excellent), barely worthy of 0.000001/10
