I am thinking they might rename it The Grand National League next season.
In honour of how exciting it is.
The Grand National was pretty nuts. A big demonstration beforehand (they are in the right if we are honest), then as if to prove a point the race was utter carnage.

It is a pretty horrific sport. Don't a lot of horses that don't make the grade go missing? I bet on it though. As they say hypocrisy makes the world go round.

For those of us that live and breathe the game, Grand National day can be an emotional rollercoaster. Excitement, worry, elation, frustration, relief. In amongst all of it, don't forget one key truth. After the naysayers fire their arrows at our sport in the pursuit of cheap publicity, by tomorrow morning most of them will have moved on to something else until next year. We'll still be here, feeding, caring for and loving our horses and our sport.
Might be an idea next year to run the race when the feckers are still glued to Becher's Brook.

Hopefully someone puts a gun to your head and forces you to jump over one of your midget fences, causing severe injury to your leg and leaving us with no option other than to have you destroyed. You've already had nature ripped out of you and have been turned into a machine-like zombie, so we can skip that first bit.

Worked with a lady that was in the game, she said that the plight of the horses that don't make it was pretty grim. If you look at the ruthless way yoof football works you can well believe it. I guess if your nipper was sold to cannibals if they didn't get a contract we would soon ban the way football behaves? They do have a right to protest, and if we are being honest are in the right.

I have visited many of the trainers stables. Paul Nichols, Ollie Murphy and Ben paulings. The horses live in more luxury than some humans. But then you get a trainer like Gordon Elliot. The pundits on tv say come with me and visit a stables and see for yourself how they are treated. I have seen over 20 y o ex race horses languishing in a field fed and watered and visited regularly by a vet to check their health. That is the narrative pushed by the pundits to suit their lifestyle. But that is not all of the issue. The horses are bred to race and make money for their owners . They don’t have a choice. We have the choice to chase a bag of wind around a field or not they don’t have a choice in what they do. I know a lot of footballers go down like they have been shot. There was one at Peterborough yesterday apparently but would they do it if they knew it was a reality?

No. They were breaking the law. It is our laws which civilise us. I don't suppose it occurred to any of the feckers they're supposed to pay to get in?

With all these things you get people that are there for thrills, but equally you get people who believe in whatever it is they are protesting about. I think what they did will pay out. If you said to one of them "script the grand national to prove your point" they wouldn't have changed what happened that much. The winner was a bit of a tap in mind.

Perhaps, now that Labour have re-invented themselves as the party of Law and Order (sic), we'll see similar groups of nonentities disrupting NHS picket lines to highlight the fact that nurses and doctors are slaughtering human beings by withholding their services?

Ah, there you are. The Peterborough Chase is held every December at Huntingdon.
May be a bit too low profile for those wanting to express their righteous indignation?

You don't half talk some sh!t sometimes wain. Well, it's factual that people died this week who would not have died if junior doctors had not been on strike. As for the philosophical question that lies at the heart of the racing debate - would it be better for all racehorses to have never been born? That way the accidental deaths of a few could never happen? These thoroughbred creatures are bred to race and unless there is racing, they cease to exist. It was notable, as always, that many of the horses that parted company with their riders in the National were still clearly enjoying themselves. Those who protest alienate many because they pursue their aims without much consideration for the law or for those who do not share their point of view. I look forward to your exposition of your own philosophy.

Who won the 'celebrity' football match, anyone know? There's a slot for football discussion elsewhere. It's called "Football discussion."

I think they're idiots (which may come as a surprise) but I believe they have done nothing to further the plight of animal welfare or make folk think seriously about the cruelty to horses insofar as horse-racing is concerned - quite the opposite actually. It just makes horsey types indignant, defensive, and more determined. Any sport which involves creatures of supposedly inferior intelligence to that of yewmans (especially where the exchange of money by whatever means is a feature) is barbaric and unecessary, in my opinion. Just leave the animals alone. Let them be.
