His CV is pretty solid looking. A few blips along the way but way above what I think anyone was expecting. I have just picked a random Conference team and looked at their manager. I went with 9th. Turns out it is Sutton United. Their manager is Matt Gray. Never heard of him, but I was expecting someone like that. Probably a crap example as he no doubt lives in London, but that is the sort of manager I would have imagined.
To be fair he seems alright - bit of proper football pedigree, only 37 just starting out as a manager really.

We can begin to see how good this squad is now I think.
I'm not expecting problems with organisation, effort or coaching.

This is way beyond anyone expectations, a superb appointment!
Obviously the usually suspects/mod who are anti HFC will be found with their heads down the WC drowning their sorrows

Excellent appointment which the Board should be applauded for.
A proper football man with a proper contacts book. On a par, to my mind, with a certain Mr Johnson (not that one) at Torquay

Good work. Aye. Much more enthusiastic about Slade than I was Richards. Or Harris. Dear HFC board. ‘The best fans in football’ appear to really like this appointment, so please, own this decision, and get rid of the buffer that is Harris. Was never necessary in the first place. And if it goes wrong, and we all start moaning, refer us back to these here pages.

We may have to endure a bit of hoofball, but we're used to that.

Hoofball is what costs managers their jobs as it isn't effective for long. So Slade will be under pressure to play football as he should be with his experience.

Beadle played direct into front men then allowed midfielders to press the play in the final third. Richards relied on hoof upfield for on unsupported front 3 to do the job. Slade iirc is of a similar ilk to Beadle.....offensive hoofball rather than defensive hoofball. With Nicholson/TOE behind a front 2 this may work....but might not be pretty in its build up....or if he thinks Liburd can hold it up!

First post and it will probably be as welcome as a fart in a phonebox given the other positive reactions to the new manager. I'm a Grimsby supporter but married to a bulls fan so I've been watching them for years. I think I started at Forest Green on a Friday night when Paul Parry had a blinder and the bulls won about 7-1. We traipsed around the Midlands to Quorn, Loughborough, Boldmere etc, etc. Last game was York away in the rain but Mrs fishy bull went to King's Lynn the other week. This is not a post from a disgruntled fan of another club with points to score. To say we were pleased that Slade was sacked at Blundell park is an understatement, he has been a decent manager but is now a dinosaur. It was genuinely thought that he'd struggle to get another job in football. He got the job here as he was a mate of our chairman. The football was turgid, and never mind a plan b, it often didn't look like there was a plan a. He does have extensive contacts in the game. Mainly under the letter J for journeyman in his filofax. Some of this deadwood can be expensive to maintain and difficult to remove without great expense. If I'm wrong and he gets it right I'll be back on here and apologize, my life is better when the bulls are doing well but I'm concerned that the lanyard gang have made a poor call here. I genuinely think that a better appointment could have been made.

Would seem to be an excellent appointment. Congratulations to the board. On the other side of the coin it seems obvious then and now this is the sort of manager that should of been and indeed what we expected last season. Interesting to see what players he picks for Saturday. Coyw.
