I'm genuinely going to blow up a part of your football club if you have the indecency to try to call it Hereford United. I walked past the ground yesterday and wondered what the new sign they had put up was all about. View AttachmentNothing to be alarmed about; it's probably because the Farsley game was one of those that Armchairfan proposed for the blind date, but forgot that it was a long way back from France for a game of football. When Box 500 sneaky beakies checked his digital footprint, they obviously didn't realise that he's hung up his tins of Heinz tomato soup now that he's a man of leisure.

When explaining which team I support, I usually find myself saying; "Hereford, we used to be called Hereford United but the club went bust and had to re-form and we are not allowed to use the old name for about five years so we are now just called Hereford FC".
I would rather just say; "Hereford United". I really don't think most people even realise that we are no longer HUFC. HUST is short for Hereford United Supporters Trust so that seems to be a bit of a contradiction as well. Anyway, I have to say that I don't really look too deeply into the history except to say that the three clubs that joined together to form HUFC are still considered to be a part of 'our' history so I don't really see why the transformation of HUFC to HFC should be different. What if the person you're explaining it to doesn't quite hear you? Do you have say all that again?

I just say Hereford, like I always have done.

For me, you only have to say City, or United or whatever, if there is more than one prominent team in that town/City. We don’t have that problem.

Let's be honest, whenever you're away on holiday or whatever and get chatting to someone in a bar and they ask you what team you support you say Hereford United, don't you?
You might qualify it by saying that these days we're known as Hereford FC but you still think of us as Hereford United. I know I do.

Yes, I do usually repeat myself just in case they haven't completely understood the explanation.

The important part of the name is Hereford.
The United is and always was superfluous.
I don’t agree that a change in name will lead to increased commercial opportunities, and while it may lead to increased sales of shirts and mouse mats in the short term, long term there is no obvious value. I also struggle with the idea that there is no cost to the club. I’ve read the Bring Back United proposal which would struggle to impress a first week Apprentice candidate. No benefit analysis, no attempt to actually engage with the club . Reference to an unnamed “expert”.
We are almost a generation on since the boycott of the old club. Time to let it go. P

The Price of football Podcast did an episode at the same time their costs came out. Kieran Maguire is the "expert" who presents that podcast alongside a guy who I think is a journalist/comedian. Here's a bit from the Bring Back United twitter but it was slightly longer when I listened to the full podcast (that podcast is a good one generally if people want a new football podcast to listen to). As for no cost to the club, I'm assuming you're not a HUST member from your previous posts so may not realise there are two votes at the AGM. The second is for a fundraiser to cover the costs and avoid the club paying anything.

I don’t believe for a minute that this would not have a cost or person power impact on the club. I am still to see any evidence of the proposed benefits beyond “it would be nice”. Sorry. Waste of time and money. I’m not a HUST member (have been in the past). I am part of a shareholding group and a club member. Plus first went in 1970 and held a ST for many years. Your comment about any shareholder disagreeing with this proposal not being welcome at ES was very poor. You do the Bring Back United Group no favours with your posting

I'm genuinely going to blow up a part of your football club if you have the indecency to try to call it Hereford United. I'd delete that if I were you. Making terror threats online even in jest is a serious matter that could land you in court, as we've seen with recent events. act.campaign.gov.uk/It's not in jest.

If you do it on matchday you could set the timer to the big telly. That would liven even the drabbest game up.
But you haven't thought this through, we will just resign Phil Stant, the ground is quite safe.
Apart from all the bits where the word safe is stretching it a bit.

What part of the club do you propose to genuinely blow up should it change its name back to Hereford United? If you could PM me before you do it, that'd be great. I have a cat to provide for who has nothing to do with all this. Cheers!

Not going to start a poll as there has already been one. I am really struggling to see the point in rebranding the club at this time. Even if the club’s figures are incorrect (£30k) and the Bring Back United figure of £10k is more accurate, what is the value for money here? It’s an awful lot of work for the club office, isn’t going to put a single extra bum on a seat and strikes me as a fairly meaningless nod to the past. can anyone give me a single good reason to restore United. I think we can probably all accept that it’s to all intents and purposes the same club. Without the debts… I think, for the quite simple reason, that no club that's been called the same name for 90 years ever tries to change it. Clubs change managers, they change players, sometimes they change grounds, the kit even. But clubs with a storied history with a name, never seek to change it. Had the club not gone to the wall in 14, no one would have wanted to change the name. I can't accept that we as supporters can try and claim the history of HUFC if we're no longer called HUFC. We must change it back. Then, finally, we have our club back.
