Pathetic, they can do what they like to the top flight, I don't care, but why trash the FA Cup. Tossers.

A shameful decision.
The prospect of earning a replay against higher graded opposition was what the FA Cup was all about for non-league and lower league clubs.
What a greedy and selfish decision this is.

How embarrassing though when they haven’t got the chance to put right all the wrongs of the first game. When they turn up against a team who play on a pitch like Brackly’s and can’t cope without a manicured lawn that they are used to. The underdogs tend to win the first game at home on their own pitch and not the replay. Unless of course you have a great team like HEREFORD UNITED.

Someone on 5live texted in with a good idea. If, after 90 minutes a premier league team is level against a lower league side then this automatically triggers a payment due of 1 million pounds to the lower league side.
Presumably directly from the Premier League side. Let's face it, buttons to them. They pay the detritus of humanity, aka football agents, a lot more.

In complete agreement with the sentiments expressed on here so far, but the FA Cup has been being unceremoniously "trashed" since the 1999/2000 season.

They said that over 700 teams participate in the FA Cup and its future is being dictated by 8 of them.

On the basis that winning the FA Cup is surely more prestigious than finishing 4th in the top flight, what they should really be doing if Champions League places are the be all and end all they should give the last spot to the winner.
Hopefully, that would stop teams that are 13th in the Premier League or worst still the Championship fielding weakened teams.
They won't though obviously.

What year was it that Man Utd withdrew from the competition and gave Villa a bye into the 4th round! That's when it started to get cheap for me. Fecking Alex Ferguson, what a C@nt.

It's all absolutely ridiculous but the thing that gets me the most is how this change affects the first round proper onwards... the Premier League clubs only enter in the third round and there aren't replays after the fourth. The FA chief exec had the gall to say the FA Cup is its biggest asset and generates over 60 per cent of our revenue to invest into the game - don't ruin it then. The FA has done some stupid things but this takes the biscuit - no consultation with anyone outside the Prem, how is that even right? 729 clubs are affected, 709 weren't asked for their thoughts and you can say at least the 637 non-league clubs are angry. Maidstone were expected to make £800k from their FA Cup run this season, and while they didn't have any replays, that's how important the competition is. Good comments from Tranmere too, pulling no punches: bullsnews.blogspot.com/2024/04/disgraceful-decision-clubs-react-to-fa.htmlRant over, for now.

Point remains that unless there is proper incentive there to win the thing.. ie Champions League qualification, then the competition will continue to be devalued to the point where Premier League clubs see it only as a hindrance to their schedule.
As WL correctly says, who would otherwise give 2 shites about finishing FOURTH in the table?

I think we need to turn this round and look at the positives. If next season is going to be "the season" we can now have a serious crack at not only winning the league but the FA Cup too, safe in the knowledge that we won't be weighed down by replays.

It’s a p1ss poor decision for football in general, but teams like, say, HFC, who only ever play cup matches at home, will only have themselves to blame if they don’t make the next round.

National League and League 2 clubs agree to not participate in the competition, release a joint statement and the decision would be reversed in minutes.

National League and League 2 clubs agree to not participate in the competition, release a joint statement and the decision would be reversed in minutes. Why stop there?...suggest National League together with Leagues 1 & 2 boycott the competition and leave the Premier prats to fight it out with the Championship chumps.
