Anyone got the time to check all the remains fixtures of others in with a chance of the play offs. Are any of them playing each other. Could their fixtures benefit us? Things have been to our benefit mostly although the other night they did not. I don’t think we should go up this season but I would hate to lose in the playoffs. Especially if it was the final.

Assuming Scunthorpe, Chorley and Brackley make the play-offs there will be 3 places left for 8 teams; 3 of those teams have a game in hand: Alfreton, Boston and Spennymoor. Hereford need 4 more points than Boston and South Shields or 3 more than Alfreton, Curzon Ashton and Spennymoor. The 3 with a game in hand will all be difficult to overtake if they win their games. Alfreton have Gloucester at home, Boston have Banbury away and Spennymoor have Banbury at home. So, it looks increasingly that Hereford will need 7 more points than Boston and 6 more than both Alfreton and Spennymoor.

Plus goal difference could come into it.

Stick 9 (nine) unanswered goals past Banbury on Good Friday and we will at least have a better GD than Spennymore, provided they do not score. Matching Boston and Alfreton's simply not achievable, it was always going to come down to GD.

A radical formation might be in order to improve our goal difference. Forget Wain's flat back four, I'm wondering whether a flat front ten might work. I would go with Pond at centre forward with Okeke wide right, Obadeyi wide left feeding crosses into Cowley, Willo, Rooney, Phillips, McHale, Ceesay and Babos. Tex can cover the defensive positions and be rush-goalie.

I wouldn't have Willo starting.

All we can do is keep winning and see how it turns out.

Barring self destruction over the final furlong it seems clear that Tamworth will be champions and Scunthorpe, Brackley and Chorley will be somewhere in the play off positions. This leaves eight teams contesting the remaining three places. If these eight teams were to pick up 50% of the outstanding points the successful teams would be Boston 74 points, Alfreton and Spennymoor both 73. As has been mentioned matches between top half teams complicate the issue and these are
29th March South Shields v Spennymoor 1st April Chester v Alfreton Curzon Ashton v South Shields 6th April Alfreton v Curzon Ashton Boston v Brackley Scunthorpe v Hereford Tamworth v Warrington 13th April Alfreton v Spennymoor Brackley v Chester Tamworth v South Shields Warrington v Hereford 20th April Hereford v Boston
Hereford must therefore win four of their last five matches and hope 74 points is enough.

Ideally even if Hereford don't get into the play-offs, it would be good if it could go to the last game of the season with still a chance, however slim.
Would then get a good gate for the Boston game.

It's not over until the fat lady sings, and she's just tuning up at the moment before coming onto stage.

Hopefully Tamworth have the title wrapped up by the Scunthorpe game, so that Scunthorpe don't have much to play for other than keeping fit for the playoffs.

I don’t even remember signing him. As nobody could read his name that's hardly a surprise.

Probably. Not definitely. This time last year, Kiddy were in 13th position, after 41 games. 6 points and 6 places off the final play-off position with a GD of -4. 7 teams above them had at least one game in hand. This year, we are in 11th after 41 games. 2 points and 4 places off the final play-off position with a GD of -1. If we can win 4 of the last 5, I reckon we'll make it. That's a big 'if' though. COYW!

To be fair, that is quite a good set of stats. As Onlooker said on the other thread, six points from these next two games are almost make or break. Personally, I like Caddis and think his attitude deserves a playoff place. If you're supposed to be Hereford United then there are no excuses regardless of budget. He believes that you are Hereford United and that there are no excuses. So, I'm in the rather envious position of being quite happy if you make the playoffs and quite happy if you fail. One thing's for sure, if Caddis isn't there next season, you need someone who, rightly or wrongly, respects your club.
