Just in case anyone isn't up to speed with things, Geomorphology is a track by Daft Punk where they sample Geno by Dexys and have Morph freestyling over the top.

Just 6 (six) British managers. Poor state of affairs, isn't it? And, look where their teams are in the table. Could be even fewer before long. Don’t know the stats but would offer that it’s reflected in the numbers of bodies on the pitch. I’d be more concerned about the amount of British owners tbh. Probably one less today. I know Ashley was a prize tw*t of the highest order, but I don't suppose he's killed anyone yet. Hope Newcastle get relegated.

Fat Ashley has ruined some famous brands in his time...
Slazenger, Lonsdale, Donnay, Newcastle United.

I’ve had the displeasure of meeting Mike Ashley through work.
I can confirm that he is ( and I shall say nothing stronger …..and of course this a personal opinion not a FACT)one of the most unpleasant arrogant and duplicitous individuals I have ever known.
I love Newcastle as a city having had the great pleasure of living there for 5 years in the 80s. Wonderful friendly and open people in my own experience.
Good luck to them-passionate fans who deserve a crack at the football elite.
Football long ago lost it’s moral compass and I suggest that our own esteemed political establishment have a similarly, shall we say, interesting relationship with Saudi.
Moral outrage is absolutely worthy and correct… but not exclusive to the situation with the Toon.
That boat sailed years ago sadly.

I agree with much of what you say, but that "deserve" word in relation to Newcastle fans really gets my goat - and has done for long and merry. Why are they so bloody different to fans of any other club? Are they more "passionate" about their team than everyone else? Some of the contributions from Newcastle United fans on the wireless this evening have made my blood boil. Can't wait to hear Shearer's take. Oh, here we go. "Deserve".

I don't think they deserve anything.
I did feel sorry for them about getting close to greatness in the 90s but never really getting anywhere. Nowadays I just can't stand the moaning. Moaning as if they have a God given right to be in the European spots every season.
They're shit now. They've been, at most, semi-shit for most of their existence.
I'm sure their Saudi saviours will sort them out.

They get 50000 fans week in week out. I am struggling to think of any club in the UK that does that with no reward since 1969!
I don’t think the money that has corrupted football has any place at all.
But if one club deserves a leg up in this fantasy football world then Newcastle do.
By the way I think the whole thing is a disgrace but hey ho… me moaning won’t help.
I knew a guy whose father before him, and then he himself, who were Chelsea season ticket holders who both packed in and went to watch West Drayton way back when Abramovich took over.
They are still there.
The big moral question is what would we all do if someone watching us beat Newcastle in 72 , felt football emotion or the chance to make a quick buck(in football … really?)came in and offered us the same opportunity?
Would we stay at Edgar Street or move to Westfields( or ANother club) in protest?
Methinks Edgar Road would be full pretty quickly.
Sadly.

Regarding attendances, during the 1981-82 season, the year before Keegan arrived on Tyneside, Newcastle averaged crowds of 17,000.Their home match against Wrexham that season was attended by less than 10,000. As with all other top-flight clubs, plenty of 'fans' have jumped on the bandwagon during the Premier League era but it certainly hasn't been that way since 1969!

Mr Ashley was last seen entering the Saudi embassy to sign the deal, has he been seen since?
The whole thing stinks, another example of 'sportswashing' by this murderous regime.

For some reason there was a big drop off in fans for a couple of years at the beginning of the 80s in Newcastle but overall their fan base has been remarkably robust (20-30000)long before the horrible Premier League. When I lived there they were pretty much full every week and once the stadium was expanded to accommodate 40-50000 it filled up straight away. To be clear …I am no fan at all of the Saudis and my wish for Newcastle to do well has nothing to do with that takeover but purely a strong affection for the city and it’s people.

You are right. Maybe deserve is the wrong word. My point is that they have for generations had huge support and achieved not very much. Now in the corrupt football fantasy world ( which I have made clear that I detest)they have a chance to do so. Back to my point about if this happened to Hereford what would you ( not just you of course)do-that’s the real question.

Their leading shareholder had a journalist murdered in cold blood for speaking out against the abuses of the regime. No amount of platitudes from the likes of Jenas and co. will change that. I found the scenes of delirious fans outside St. Jame's Park quite sickening.
I hope they are relegated but we all know they'll buy their way to huge success; that's the whole point of sportswashing. Top level football really is a cesspit these days. Give me a wet Saturday in Merstham any time.
