I’m a member (.....)
Just posted the following. Let’s see how long it lasts.
Morning.
There has been a good deal of discussion elsewhere about the current “academy” set up. Is it correct that some age groups are required to play home games in Yate? Quite significant figures are also being bandied about for initial registration fees (£50) in addition to similar fees for monthly subs (which do not include the costs of mandatory kit and branded travel outfits (presumably jumpers and tracksuits).
Quite a substantial financial commitment for parents it seems, and likely to price out quite a few, before the travel costs are even factored in.
Anyone on here able to assist? I believe that enquiries have been made of the club only to be met with radio silence.
Bit of an interest in this as my son was involved in a number of football league academies and centers of development in the early 2000s, none of which we were required to pay for beyond the costs of travel. The whole point of development is to encourage the best young players to commit early to a club and create an in-house culture. The apparent silence of the club on this point suggests it’s more a money making exercise.
Happy to be corrected.
edit-still there. Added in some back of fag packet calculations about the costs (£650) before even considering the travel costs just to home games. One response so far which suggests that the “connection” with HFC is merely window dressing.

And still we hear nothing.
Congratulations Hereford and Yate FC, a true community football club.

Cursory look at the Academy section of the HFC website makes no mention of JPL.
Odd that. The JPL website isn’t quite so reticent.

Here’s the “parent pack”. www.juniorpremierleague.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/RTC-Herefordshire-Parent-Pack-LowRes.pdfNo mention of costs, but very impressive work. Let’s not beat around the bush here. It’s a franchise. There’s nothing wrong with that in principle, but let’s not kid anyone that this is a community initiative or facility. A poster on FB has commented that “they only want one or two” even at the youngest age groups. That’s because the purpose of these organizations is profit (of course). If you are the parent of a football mad child, you’ll already be standing on the touch line most weeks from the age of six. See that bloke over there? Not a parent...he’s a scout, probably from your nearest PL/Championship club. If your six year old shows the right qualities (believe me, they stand out a mile), he’ll be in the ear of the coach. If he ticks the right boxes, then he’ll be on their radar. The rest? The rest don’t get picked up. Mostly because they’re not of interest. Any that are missed will be scouted by the age of 8 or 9. Cynically, if you’re not showing the right stuff at that age, percentage wise forget about making a career in the game. The scouting networks are so extensive that every kid with talent gets hoovered up very early on, and will be affiliated to the proper Academies. At this point you don’t see them on the local playing fields because they’re not permitted to play there. What we have now is the opportunity for parents to pay for the kudos of their child playing for “Hereford FC”. It’s a win win for the club (no need to get involved beyond lending the name, the badge and the occasional visit to and use of ES (and the expense of turning on the lights...). It’s a win win for JPL as they can charge for all the kit, coaching etc etc and May just find the odd gem to pass on to the real big boys. I’m not sure it’s a win win for the poor parents who will have to fork out the money with no realistic prospect of their child actually getting anywhere in the game, and the far more realistic prospect of having to console them pretty quickly when they get released. There is nothing wrong with this all. There are opportunities here if your child has the talent. There are better ways of realizing that talent tbh, (just play for your local team with your mates-much cheaper subs). What does rankle is the way UITC has been sacrificed (after being treated remarkably shoddily) by a so called community club.

Andy Bevan is the owner of the RTC franchise, so how are the club going to benefit financially from this set up?
It seems very fishy to me.

There has to be a pathway. I'm pretty sure, in years past, we have all seen young lads playing in local youth leagues and thought...he should make a pro-player.
The downside is that so few actually make it to the pro scene and the worst bit is that having been taken away from their local clubs/mates they come out of the academy system thinking they are too good to go back to local level/their mates.
The result is that they drop out of football altogether and their good ability is lost to the game.

Responsibility for this shameful deception must surely lie with our Head of Football. Will he do the honourable thing and offer his resignation?

A statement is still coming but the situation is, the u9s and u10s will play at Yate (JPLs central location) all other age groups will play their home games at various locations around Herefordshire.
Not my words.

"Andy Bevan is the owner of the RTC franchise, so how are the club going to benefit financially from this set up?

Andy Bevan must be making a decent wage/income from all of this. Not only is he probably receiving a decent wage for being the head/director of youth but must be getting a nice sum for also providing a training pitch at his farm 'The Ranch'. During the winter months when the weather changes and his farm pitches aren't playable training used to take place at the girls school in Monmouth. This will probably still be the case this season which means even more travelling for some of the parents. The fact that he has brought his own coaches across with him implies that it is virtually his JPL Herefordshire Regional Talent Centre franchise being played under the name of Hereford FC Academy. Up until 2/3 years ago he was playing under the banner of West Brom and had big West Brom signs/badges on the entrance to his farm, these have subsequently been replaced with Hereford FC ones.
Seems that UiTC were dumped for reasons unknown to the majority of us and replaced by a profit making franchise that lines a few peoples pockets and makes some people feel important.
