Well what I do know is that Peggy don't pay anyone. they get a tracksuit, a proper coach for away games and free meals after matches. they could not compete at the Hellenic level (level 5 non league, same as us) without going semi pro. Westfields pay and its a bit complicated, but if you are in the match squad you get paid (no contracts) and for the starting team on average its between £25 and £75 with a win bonus/tracksuits/training kit etc. I think there may be clubs at our level who don't pay much more than expenses and a win bonus but I'm equally sure that most teams do pay, and that sides like Alvechurch, Sporting Kalassa are reputed to have bigger budgets than us. I don't know our wages, but knowing that strikers get a premium and that they have come from a higher level I'd say Mills and Heysham are our best paid. The stuff about a free room before home games sounds iffy to me. I guess that Purds, Jamer, Joel and Willets are in the next bracket. Are we paying Page's wages or Cheltenham? I assume he's getting his off them and then effectively a match bonus from us

Wrong way round. Players don't get paid well, they don't play well, crowds diminish. I'm sorry but I find that statement as nonsense. I explained it very carefully. If players were to feel short-changed in relation to crowd size, it could indeed have an impact on performance. And presumably it was nonsense that the players didn't play well when they weren't paid well (if at all) in the second half of the final conference season? The exception was the final two games when PB and the skipper worked miracles and just said "Let's do it for our own pride and the fans." But you won't get that mentality week in, week out if players feel they are being messed about/short-changed on pay. Anyway, the common consent on here seems to be that our lads are being paid reasonably well for the level. They certainly played well on Saturday! And that should put a few hundred on the gate next time. Everything is generated from what happens on the pitch at the end of the day. That's the money-spinner. The club would do well to remember that, without going too mad splashing the cash.

I understand what you are saying but I just don't agree that players who aren't paid well won't play well. Stourport have been flying lately but as far as I'm aware, Willets was the only player being paid. Westfields don't pay an awful lot yet they always do well enough and certainly held their own against us.
I'd hope that, as part of his recruitment policy, Beadle assesses which players are just in it for the money and which ones want to go places with the club.
I suspect the perfect scenario is a mixture of the two - well enough paid to feel appreciated but wanting to win and win well in front of potentially 3000 fans is another key motivator.

Your LAST paragraph we can at least agree on.
