On the one hand he says that the players are not learning from what they work on in training. And then on the other he says he still has faith in them. It also appears that like Brendan Rogers he wants his centre halves and full backs to have some creative footballing ability; which is fine if they can execute the basics of defending. But on tonight's evidence, can they???

A pretty honest assessment, but what's wrong with having a few giant defenders but still play the flowing football we like?

Don't care if it's negative, if the other team doesn't score and you do, you win

A pretty honest assessment, but what's wrong with having a few giant defenders but still play the flowing football we like? We have no physical presence whatsoever. Wheatley's probably the tallest lad and he's been left on the bench and has no aerial presence anyway. I worry everytime we concede a set piece and we never challenge when the ball is in the air in the opposition box. Too easy for the defenders and keeper in the air AGAIN tonight

Just because you favour a play-on-the-deck philosophy - as most do - doesn't mean you don't have to be able to cope with the ball in tha air when it comes at you...

New keeper and at least on big centre half needed and ASAP.

We need one 6' 6" centre half to deal with the aerial bombardment and one centre half with pace to sweep up behind, at the moment we appear not to have either of those.
Oh and I'm afraid Rivers reminds me so much of Adam Bartlett, pretty good shot stopper but as for coming off his line and kicking, oh my!
Not too much wrong with the team really, but the defence needs to be sorted asap.
Still great entertainment mind!

The interview made perfect sense to me.
Beadle said we can have two 6ft 7in centre halves and the same up front, but that's not what the fans want. He also said he wasn't the man for job under those circumstances. But that didn't mean we don't need to improve our defending big time.
It strikes me that he "gets it" and doesn't think it appropriate to jump up and down. The fans love that, but players don't. Especially as we have so many players learning the game.

It's not about what the fans want, it's about what's bloody needed. One 6ft4 centre half is all that's needed. It doesn't stop the team playing, it just a means someone capable can mark their 6ft3 striker, and from corners we have someone to aim for.

Yet to be convinced by Rivers, but a tall physical central defender is a must. As well as defending duties, this would also help with our set-pieces and probably create more chances in the box for other players. Not that we were exactly short of chances last night. I'm almost certain Mills got in the way of an on-target shot that would have made it 5-5.

The answer to Beadle asking what do we want.
Yes we want to see a passing squad, but not when your passing it around in your own box. Im struggling to see why its that hard to get the message across that once its in the box clear it otherwise lets play football?

In his extremely naïve interview, Peter Beadle suggests the fans want to be entertained. Where exactly has he been? Peter, they don't: and you certainly haven't asked me.
I have never wanted to be entertained. I can watch the Black & White Minstrel Show for entertainment.
I'd rather win, mate.

I am reminded of a quote I once heard attributed to the great Bob Paisley. When one of his players had hesitated on the ball he was thought to have said something along the lines of "if you don't know what to do with the ball just pop it in the net and we can discuss your options later". To Beadle I would say something similar. Lets get out of this league and worry about what kind of football we want to play when its done. Of course we want to see attractive football. Doesn't every football fan ? But for the long term success of this football club i would argue getting out of this league within two seasons at most is far more important. Otherwise we become another Westfields.

I think you find that's when you lose 7-0.
