Just hearing that another football legend has died - Jimmy Hill. Not only will I remember him as Mr. Football, but I will remember him as a football ambassador of the highest order: knowledgeable, true and simply irreplaceable. Thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

Rip Jimmy. There will be a split on how good he was for football. He was excellent on M.O.T.D. I think that in some respects he killed football for the working class, by scrapping the cap for earnings of a football player, enabling players to demand silly money and channeling all cash to what is now the premier league. Could be a good discussion point?

Way ahead of his time. Transformed Coventry City, loads of innovations that are now the norm, but at the time were unheard of.

Hugely innovative, was three points for a win one of his? Removing the salary cap was as big as Bosman, bigger maybe. And not a bad pundit, despite his 'little man' comment on MoTD many years ago. I'm sure MoTD will be there with a suitable tribute tonight, massive figure in 20th century football.

I am pretty sure he came up with the modern matchday magazine style programme.

RIP Jimmy a true legend of the game who contributed so much. To say he is responsible for killing the game for the working class is ridiculous

Dry eyed here too. Never forgave him for his rude and patronizing remarks on MOTD after we knocked Brighton out of the cup the year after our first relegation.

Interesting to hear Sillett on the wireless tonight. In a nutshell, JH taught him everything he took into management.
As for his politics one shouldn't speak ill of the dead. But he was a wrong'un, for the Scum Africa jaunt if nothing else.

I know pointing out he had a big chin is stating the obvious, but I have just seen a picture of him and have forgotten how gigantic it was.

He was largely good for the game, I think(!), but his "poor old Brighton" comments on MOTD in the F A Cup game do rankle.

RIP Jimmy. For a while MOTD never felt the same when he left. Anyone else remember the funny scene on Fantasy Football League when Skinner and Baddiel talked him into talking about the way football should be played then showed footage of him championing the long ball system ?.

Feckk off, right on Welsh tosser. Show some respect. Maybe before your time Arnold. But apartheid was an oppressive political system in South Africa whereby the white minority denied the black majority basic rights that you take for granted. It took some time but eventually all the world sporting bodies banned the fascist state from international sport. Hill chose to side with the forces of darkness. It probably doesnt make him the devil incarnate but it certainly should temper the gushing platitudes we are hearing. The fact that this side of Hill is being airbrushed out shows how far that the game still has to travel.
