Feckk off, right on Welsh tosser. Show some respect. Maybe before your time Arnold. But apartheid was an oppressive political system in South Africa whereby the white minority denied the black majority basic rights that you take for granted. It took some time but eventually all the world sporting bodies banned the fascist state from international sport. Hill chose to side with the forces of darkness. It probably doesnt make him the devil incarnate but it certainly should temper the gushing platitudes we are hearing. The fact that this side of Hill is being airbrushed out shows how far that the game still has to travel. So you showing no respect for his death makes you a better man?

The fact that this side of Hill is being airbrushed out shows how far that the game still has to travel. Can't argue with that. Interestingly the current England manager played football in apartheid South Africa and has never been held to account for it. I quite like him myself but recognise that while many sportsman took a brave stand, others covered their ears and sung "la la la la" in lieu of a functioning conscience. I read that Steve Biko would have celebrated his 69th birthday the day before yesterday. He played a bit of rugby I seem to recall. The great Irish outside half Tony Ward once said that he wouldn't play in a country where he couldn't have a beer with his opposite number after the game due to the colour of their skin. Jimmy Hill did some good things (who knew that scrapping the maximum wage for footballers would ultimately be so abused by rampant, unchecked capitalism?) and possibly some less auspicious things. He led a rich and eventful life and is probably not defined by any one footnote in his obit. My sympathy goes out to anyone who loses the battle with Alzheimers. An awful illness.

As a child in the late sixties I can remember how Basil d'oliviero was treated and any, and I mean any sportsman who went to S.A in those days gets no respect from me,most were already well off and sold their souls for even more money, as for minimum wage for footballers, the worst thing that ever happened to the game

Even if they did, rejoicing in the death of another human being just because you disagree with their politics makes you a pretty sick individual.

This is where the faceless internet gets into problems, isn't it? If you were writing, let's say, for a newspaper, you would get into trouble saying that. Tommy has not "rejoiced in the death of another human".
You, sir, are the one who needs to ask questions of yourself...

This banter site could start an argument about the merits of Little Miss Muffet or Jack and Jill.
