Hmmm. Cross Keys invariably has several/copious numbers of braces hanging in the porch during the season. Whenever that is. Yes, indeed so. I have been listening to the shooting debate on Farming Today. It seems to me that there are different arguments connected with shooting compared with foxhunting?

Should I ever venture to this establishment, will I run the risk of standing at the bar alongside people who think it's ok to kill animals for "sport"? (I accept that this could happen anywhere, but you see with regard to this thread and this boozer, the seed has now been sown) Would have thought most pubs out of the city, and quite a few in it, have shooting parties in them at some point during the season.crikey, i know I wasn't marco's biggest fan (sorry mr chairman, but he was clearly not the man for the job no matter how nicely he spoke to you and the board) but i wouldn't go that far, unless we're talking paint guns

Depending on which braces you mean, this could either lead to the publican losing the support of some punters, or some punters losing the suppport for their trousers. Country pub activities, eh?

The Black Swan at Much Dewchurch is open every lunch time and every evening. That in itself is quite an achievement. The beer, home-made food and welcome are first class. The pub is both full of character and characters. The landlady is a delightful host. The pub is a vital part of the community; it also attracts travellers. If it was good enough for the Lord Protector of England it is plenty good enough for latter day Puritans. All of these points are undeniably true. However; if whilst visiting said establishment anyone there should ask for assistance with a bonfire, I would suggest a swift exit...

Plural of ‘Brace’ (in the sense of slaughtered animal, politician, crap footy managers and useless board members), is also ‘Brace’

Could you please explain your post? Type 'Much Dewchurch bonfire' into any popular search engine and have a look for yourself.

Great to be back out the Roast Ox at Painscastle today. Met my old Classics Master by chance in the pub after taking friends up Llanbedr Hill into "Martyr of the Storm" territory. Wow. Beautiful. Give it a go. Finally adjourned to the Salutation. Couldn't quite make the Black Swan in the south of this chequered county. Some old cricketers in the Sal. One of 'em "couldn't keep pigs."

It would have been nice to get home - courtesy of the Lovely Companion - to a Q and A session on the telly with Phil Neville or perhaps, even, the Black & White Minstrels featuring Dai Francis? Cap a nice day, one was thinking.
But what do we get? Dick Strawbridge and Angel doing some plastering. Eight o'clock on a Sunday night.
What a fecking nation.

'Couldn't keep pigs.' Bonehead used to say that a lot.
But I believe I first heard it from George Emerson.

Indeed. One of his ludicrous claims related to the number of illegitimate children he'd fathered. He would point at random kids on the Racecourse or the Common and describe them as 'Evans spawn'.
Always seemed unlikely to me - but you never know. This is Hereford

So, the majority of these establishments remain closed on account of business and selfishness. The "community" which they used to engender is but a halcyon recollection.

Last country pub I visited was run by a rampant Brexiteer who resembled Tudor Bryn Williams.
Insisted on asking me every 5 minutes if everything is alright sir. Got to reassure the locals.
