I hope we're not in the North because of the prospect of the A49 every other week or so.
Canvey Island or Blyth Spartans for a weekend. No contest. Neither thank you.

Surely getting promoted quickly (via the South) is better for the finances than a few extra fans? Just reading this article about Gainsborough Trinity being relegated for the first time ever and there is this worrying quote by their chairman: Even though I live in the North, I'd rather take 1-2 years with lower attendances in the South than 4-5 years (minimum) in North...

I don't know why there is an assumption that the north is *that* much harder than the south. Yes, there are some big names in the north but if you look at the south there are plenty of clubs with conference experience, they've got the London catchment to work with and then you've also got Torquay who despite their current predicament, are a club similar in stature to us.
Additionally look at how well the likes of Dover, Sutton, Bromley, Boreham Wood and Ebbsfleet are currently doing in the Conference: all recently promoted from the south.
Regardless of which league we end up in it'll be tough, but I'd also expect us to do well in either.

Like a few others have eluded to, I don’t understand the assumption made by a few that the south will be an easier league than the north.
I’m actually looking forward to playing in a competitive league against teams that aren’t pub teams.

Although it will be interesting to see the effect of the enevitable price hike.

I suspect most Hereford fans are understandably a bit out of touch with the higher echelons of non league football and are thinking that just because the likes of Chester, Stockport and York have a proud history they must still be decent sides. Based on what I've seen and heard, they're not any more! Yes, they may get good crowds but that's no guarantee of success; both Macclesfield and Accrington have shown this season that success isn't wholly dependant on your fanbase. Yes I'm based in the North but unless you're a London Bull, the travelling in the South will not be that much different to the North, nor will the palying standard be much lower.

I have watched Salford play three times this season and they aren't all that. Class of 92 financial backing allowed them to change the complete squad with the exception of one player for this season and Harrogate who are second are backed by the Weaver family who have a net worth of £50 million.Agree money is not everything but in this instance clearly influential on league standings this season.
