Some of our 'fans' were plonkers at away games as far back as season one in the Midland League. Seems that it remains the case to this day. Embarrassing to say the least. It's one of the things I find painful, as a football fan. I want to be proud of my club (and generally, I am). But it just takes one, or two. I remember playing Tiverton Town. Very welcoming club, no segregation, good quality football, access to a quality clubhouse and bar. But what I remember is the one Hereford supporter, plastered, stood in front of the clubhouse f'ing and blinding at anyone who came close, including the 10 year old kids. It would have been a perfect day, otherwise.

The truth is some of our fans have been mindless dickheads since I first starting going in the 80s. Its not a new phenomenon. Generations of Hancocks. Its just that percentage of the general public you wouldn't want be anywhere near. Same as it ever was. As Talking Heads once said. Nothing the club can do. A dick is a dick. All clubs have got them. Disagree. Plenty the club could, and should do. And maybe are doing. But it should be shared with the rest of us, who don’t identify as p!55ed up morons.

Good to hear you say that.I have an eight year old, and I've no intension of ever bringing her to see Hereford play. Sound disloyal? I think it was last season or the year before, a couple of home games on the trot some of our very vocal fans gave grief to the opposition physio (Darlington, “you fat bastard, who ate all the pies") and next game a female linesman (that I'll not repeat here). I never want to explain to my daughter why it's OK for some of our fans to shout what they did. I'd love to share supporting football with her. If we followed rugby, or any other sport, it wouldn't be an issue. I haven't figured out why football is different

Surely this is more a reflection on society generally? To me, the decline in societal standards over the last 40 or 50 years is evident wherever one cares to look. Commercial Road on a Friday or Saturday night. Boozers, clubs and takeaway 'food' outlets open until 3, 4 in the morning? Litter strewn streets in and around High Town at mid-day on a Saturday. Lord knows what the streets look like at 5.00am on a Sunday morning. It strikes me few, if any, give a flying f*ck about anything in this country anymore. I fail to see why the football club should be held responsible for the antics of some who purport to be it's supporters.

Just that I don't want to be anywhere near it.

I’m not for a second saying that the club should be held responsible for the antics of some ‘ supporters’, unless they are in some way contributing to it by negligence. Which they’re not. My point is that whatever they are doing about it behind the scenes, and because it’s such a clear and obvious problem, there comes a time when the rest of us need to be shown what steps the club (and other bodies) may be taking, and that it won’t be tolerated. No football club can cure the ills of society in general, but they can certainly take steps to dramatically limit how much of this cr@p occurs on their watch.

Call it out, condemn it, and say what happens if you can’t stop being a dick.

Might I suggest that genuine fans take a more active part in stamping out these moronic antics? Many of the idiots are known as regular offenders and could easily be referred to the club, anonymously if necessary, for action to be taken. That may be distasteful to some but possible club fines and/or loss of points could be the alternative.

Why is it 'a matter ror the club'? That's like saying that the massive outbreak of shoplifting in Co-Op stores is a matter for the Co-Op. It isn't. It's a matter for society.

Coming to a street corner near you very soon. Brilliant. That sounds like reliable stuff. It appears to be like going to a cocktail bar and saying "surprise me" when you're allergic to alcohol. Anesthetics, stimulants, psychedelics, opioids, breadcrumbs, two eggs, 500g plain flour, 250g unsalted butter. Just whack it all in!

That's like saying that the massive outbreak of shoplifting in Co-Op stores is a matter for the Co-Op. It isn't. It's a matter for society. What? Are you suggesting that the club are acting responsibly by doing and saying nothing about these incidents because it's a 'societal problem'? Sure, it's not the club who nurtured these anti-social attendees, but as far as the FA are concerned, every club has a duty concerning the behaviour of its supporters, both home and away, feel free to check. Have you never noticed that the FA can and have penalised clubs of all sizes for failing to take sufficient action in this area? Have you not heard the words 'banning order' or 'Police Liaison Officer'? I'm not suggesting that the club place three stewards behind any person who might decide to kick-off at a match, nor that Stig gets himself a taser and goes down to the Co-Op, but simply that their lack of statement about this growing issue is not really good enough. For all we know, the club are working extremely hard, both themselves and with associated bodies (I'd be surprised if they weren't), but it's beyond time that we heard from them about this - they have a duty of care, and that's to everyone. There is a problem, it's getting worse, to the point where proper fans might consider not attending, or at least as mentioned above, not taking their kids. I've highlighted the point I'm trying - and clearly failing - to make, but if you don't think that actions and/or sanctions are available to the club, are both appropriate and required, and crucially, that they should let the genuine fans know about them, I really don't know what's left to say.

Can't we just give the match officials a bag each before the game as a sort of rider?
Getting everyone on the same wavelength will calm the situation right down IMO.
