Watching games from 60s/70s on you tube recently. Spurs v west ham.
Goalkeepers not wearing gloves. The ball was a lot heavier then.
Alan gilzean received a crunching tackle 5yards from the touch line. What did he do? Picked himself up and limped off the pitch to receive treatment from the man with the magic sponge and bucket of water allowing the game to continue. Won’t see that now.

The weirdest thing is that we all had the absolute belief that it was possible to resolve any medical issue with a sponge and a bucket of water.

Invalid cars parked by the corner flag.
Quagmires.
Snow covered pitches with orange balls.

Narrow goal nets at Upton Park and other places.
Kids in green parkas (we all had one, with that strip of rabbit fur on the hood).
The alphabet letters on the pitchside - what were they for?

Fans with rattles.
Players with sideburns.
Those letters on the advertising hoardings showing the half time scores elsewhere.

Invalid cars parked by the corner flag. Quagmires. Snow covered pitches with orange balls. League football…. Possibly not the correct choice of word, but I take your point - that's what they were called back then. When I first visited Highfield Road in the mid-70s I assumed that they were all sky blue for a reason.

When I first visited Highfield Road in the mid-70s I assumed that they were all sky blue for a reason. I was going to pipe up with the revelation that my first car was from Coventry. A Talbot Samba, Wiki reckons it was built in France though. I am glad I tortured it now.

Fans chanting "where's yer caravan?" at long haired opposition players. Or calling them a hippo. Never understood that.

Fans with rattles. Players with sideburns. Those letters on the advertising hoardings showing the half time scores elsewhere. I seem to remember that they were there to put up the scores of other matches. Numbers would appear by them in the second half. No internet in those days and unlikely to have a radio to fit in your pocket. All games used to kick off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon so this was the digital way to keep tabs on other teams in league.
