Blimey. A great bowler. Pretty lethal when operating at Canterbury, too. The Knott-Deadly duo was a thing of some beauty.

Probably the best bowler in the world late 60s early 70s. Took the best part of 300 test wickets when Fiery Fred and, I think, Lance Gibbs were the only players to have taken more than 300.
RIP, Deadly, you were special.

A generally quiet man as I remember but also a bit of a dark horse with the ladies. At his best on the uncovered pitches of the time. His action made him appear ordinary but in fact he was unique. There won't be another....

Another legend gone, unplayable on many different surfaces. Inspired me to try and be a right arm version of his unique cricketing self. Not the easiest of tasks, ended up as a pound shop tribute act to Bob Taylor. RIP Deadly.

John Player League, Sunday afternoons, hosted by the late Peter Walker. 40 overs a side, first 20 commentated by John Arlott, the last 20 by Jim Laker. No nonentities giving their ‘expert’ thoughts. Between innings chat with some legendary character from the home county.
‘Deadly’, with the likes of Kevin Jarvis (ex Herefordshire CCC ?), John Shepherd, Asif Iqbal, the late Graham Dilley ( who signed a copy of Wisden Cricket Monthly in The Swan one night when he featured on the front cover) are fond memories of that era.
Wonderful bowler, may he rest in peace.

Heard him described as a spinner on Five 5 this afternoon, which shocked me a bit because growing up I thought he was a too fast for a spinner...seamed it, swung it and spun it. Brilliant. RIP Derek, one of those guys that made people fall in love with cricket.
