For those of us that follow Worcestershire in the summer, another legend has passed.
Owner of one of the best cricket blazers ever, and a lovely guy.
I spent many a summer using one of the DF bats desperately trying to get the ball off the square whilst playing Herefordshire league cricket.

Chairman of WCCC during their most successful period, IIRC. Did a lot for Worcs and cricket in general.

Top bloke and a legend.
Loads of my cricketing mates used to get their bats from the factory in Sansome Walk because they were much cheaper than from a sports shop on account of having an imperfection, which you had to look very closely to find.
That blazer was something else too!

One of them, can't remember which, produced a "jumbo" cricket bat I think; a fkn huge thing.

My kid brother was a useful cricketer and had a Magnum; used to launch balls into orbit with it.

I had a beautiful Newbery back in the day. Distraught when it broke, beginning of the end of a very undistinguished career. Just the £570 for a new one these days!!

If MT has messaged you offering you a new career for £570 don't do it. It's a scam. Although in his defence he only took £450 off me. Must be London weighting.

"A Fearnley bat was an object of desire from playgrounds to pavilions across the country and the world, with players of the calibre of Ian Botham, Viv Richards, Graham Gooch, Graeme Pollock, Clive Lloyd, Wasim Akram, Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Lamb using them. The England players Darren Gough, Kevin Pietersen and Stuart Broad were among many whose first childhood bat was a Duncan Fearnley.
A left-handed bat, he made his first-class debut for Worcestershire in 1962 and played 97 times for the county over 6 years, averaging 20.58 and scoring one century.
His 12-year tenure as chairman was the most successful period in the club's history, featuring six trophies."
The Times, Register, 11th March 2024.
