This is a better view of that last gasp chance.

A funny moment, and a fine example of sh*trousery, was when their one player in the chaotic last 10 minutes or so went down like their was a sniper on the roof of the main stand.
He was ordered to leave the pitch behind the Meadow End goal and rejoin by the dugouts. This involved him running like he was doing the lap of honour after just winning gold in the Olympics, armed with a massive grin, milking the torrent of close quarters abuse off half a grounds worth of Hereford fans.
At the same time, the FIFA "go into time wasting mode" seemed to get in their young keepers head. A few panicked clearances into the stands.

Had the game gone to penalties would Caddis have put Sherry on for Pond just before the final whistle? Probably not, particularly if Pond had scored the equaliser, but an interesting possibility nonetheless.

Gateshead were streets ahead in most areas and thoroughly deserved the win. We were depressingly unambitious for all but the last 15 minutes. A late goal to us would have condemned us to an expensive trip up north for another lesson in how to pass the ball and indulge in inevitable defeat. On the upside the back four played well, especially the full backs. The pitch was a credit to the groundsman after the puddles of Friday. The ref was excellent and the game remarkably free of fouls. The support was unstinting despite the one-way traffic and the volume was 11/10 for a relatively limited attendance. This team might just make the play-offs but will need some luck and an entirely different game plan for home matches. A late goal would have meant penalties. I thought with the players available it was almost the perfect game plan. We missed Ceesay a lot as an outlet today. I heard someone say that if drawn the game would go to penalties. I'm obviously not keeping up. Have we had some special dispensation to avoid a replay or does that now apply to all matches at this stage of the competition. I also heard someone say that, if drawn, there would have to be a replay and in my ignorance this seemed to be the more likely option.
Apologies.
