I feel we need to get promoted to keep up the momentum. Any chance of extra outside funding to make a couple more signings in key areas what need strengthening? Is there another benefactor in the wings? Now is the time to invest before the bubble bursts.

I can't see the benefactors investing further - the whole purpose of the anonymity was to protect them from endless demands for cash injections.
The chosen model for the club was for the benefactors to stump up start up capital in return for shares - an element of control in the way the club is run. The day to day running of the club is down to the HFC board who have stressed living within our means - the budget is said to be based on a very conservative estimate in terms of gate figures.
As we have BATTERED projected season ticket sales (too early to establish a pattern for home gate figures, though) it might be reasonable to assume a pretty healthy WARCHEST. However, the stated aim is one of prudence, so I expect no further investment in the playing budget. If for no other reason than that it would be tantamount to a public expression of no confidence in the chosen model (chosen from a field of one, lest we forget).
The squad in place suggests to me that money has been spent - only time will tell whether it has been spent wisely.

Here's the thing as I see it. Player for player, based on two games admittedly, I'm not sure there's a lot wrong with our squad from a pure footballing perspective. The issue is more a mental one. They need to have a mindset of being first to the ball, be ready to muscle their way through a challenge and be basically more gritty. The nice football can come once we're three goals to the good with a few minutes to go. Graft and mental acuity are just as important at this level, if not more so. It's if the squad can't get into that frame of mind that we do have a major problem...

Tbh I don't think further investment in the squad will bring any greater return in the imminent future.
From what I have seen the problem is the current squad are not yet gelling together as a team but that's hardly surprising given the amount of time they have had together.
Bringing new lads in now will just add to the lack of team understanding.
We need to let them get on with figuring out whom the best 11 are at working to the end result and if that means the learning curve involves a loss here and there, so be it, just as long as lessons are learnt and we move on to better things including moving up a division at the end of the season.

But it is clear we need strengthening in a couple of areas. So we need to do so. Also I'm interested in what people think about the benefactors or other "professional" Hereford fans helping prospective players get good "day jobs" locally. That doesn't put extra financial strain on the club but the business community can offer prospective players something extra - as long as they are competent and capable in the job arranged for them. Used to happen in "amateur" rugby to get round the rules. Worked well. Wouldn't this help attract good players with something else about them too? You get paid a certain amount for playing but you get paid more in a "normal" career. If we're going to have benefactors, isn't this a good way to use their standing and contacts?

This one's partially for the hufcbanter guy on twitter, but I'm of the belief that we actually have our budget too high. We need to get some worse players to get out of this league. Our problem is that we're simply too good!

I believe that a few loan players may come in to strengthen the squad. But as already mentioned we need the current squad to gel first.

It is widely accepted that two new players don't adversely prevent a squad from gelling. I simply don't accept that you play three competitive games, you see where you can be strengthened, and then you do nothing "because the existing squad has to gel." If that were the case, the transfer window would already effectively be closed. If the club has a good opportunity to take a talented player, they should grab that chance with both hands.

How about upping the training from twice a week to three times. Wouldn't cost the Earth and once the team have gelled it could be reduced back to twice a week if necessary.

I suspect that they will, subject to staying within budget. The team desperately needs another home fixture! They'll gel like billy-o with a partisan home crowd all over them.

The lads still need time to Gel
Whats thats what i keep telling myself as they looked we gelled in Preseason and first game at home
I can see us struggling at most away games. Home form is important, i think we will run away with our home form.
Need to focus on those away games more.....

That's OK then. I'll demand a place in the Chelsea team and if they say I'm not good enough I'll tell them the lads need time to gel, and I'm one of the lads now, so leave me alone and let me do the best I can. I can see Mourinho accepting that, to be fair.

Our problem is that we're simply too good! Certainly, you see in the conference, ex league teams splashing on league managers and players, before realising that you need a bunch of non league cloggers to get out of a league of cloggers.
