Re rugby players limited games nan bread - Add in the upcoming nations cup and 6 nations and you’ll understand why youngsters and “squad players” will get a lot more game time as they have been since the restart post covid. The new normal is bound to involve more youngsters as clubs certainly wont be able to afford the expensive squads of yesteryear. I think there is genuine concern over the pro game if the pandemic is with us too much longer. As for yesterday ... same old sale, always cheating 😏😁😁 seems incredible to bend the rules of competition like this so they will know exactly what they need to do to make the play-offs on Wednesday .... Funny old season .. glaws finish 7th but in reality 9th given today’s points and saracens punishment. Let’s hope we learn how to hold on to a lead next season ... I just realised that I have lost an entire year somehow. I skipped straight on to the 21-22 season, accidently skipping 20-21 altogether. I might just have stumbled on to something.

Did it! The shield is back in the Bay! Only 35% possession in first half and massive penalty count against, but they went south and are bringing the shield back to Hawkes Bay!!! Richard, the first game after is always a compulsory defence and, by coincidence, we have to front up at North Harbour away a week on Friday! Fantastic. Congratulations to Hawkes Bay. I note that North Shore has come into form with a win against Tasman. Should be a cracker. Tasman were on a 15 game unbeaten run too. Looks like I got it wrong, it's the first home game that is a challenge so the shield isn't up for grabs against North Harbour. The first challenge is against Northland in Napier.

I did wonder, I have seen that there have been rule changes in recent years but it appears that you still have to win the Shield in opposition territory.

Yep, I always thought the very first game was a compulsory challenge and then all subsequent home games. Obviously the shield is always won on opposition territory and usually their next game will be a home game as that's the way fixtures normally work out. Anyway, been a great season so far.

I thought Wonder Woman had a shield, but I cannot find any photos of her with a shield and I have looked at loads of them to be sure.

Good luck to the lad, well deserved; obviously gave up waiting for Eddie Jones to pick him. If Danny Cipriani is not Jones' idea of an international fly half, Sheedy was never going to be. I know Wales have an abundance of talent in the back row, but I thought Dan Thomas might have also been in with a shout; especially as this year's AIs are meaningless and are a great opportunity to see how many of the fringe players are able to step up. I'm hoping Eddie Jones will see them that way, but I'm not holding my breath.

The only thing I remember of him is a brilliant outside break that he made when he came off the bench for Bristol a few weeks ago. You'll probably remember it. I thought at the time that he had some potential. And good for Pivac giving a few young kids a chance.

England were actually going for the Triple Crown in that game. Keith Jarret, 1967.

And so, rather inevitably, Cipriani has taken his leave at Gloucester. In truth, there won’t be too many tears shed as he has barely featured this season (one distinctly average appearance against Leicester which saw him hooked after less than an hour) and last season was disappointingly sub par.
A great talent-on his day absolutely unplayable, although since Jones decided he was a risk too far in last years World Cup, his confidence and desire seemed to ebb away and he increasingly seemed intent on (over) sharing his off field issues. Rumours of his role in the departure of Ackerman and the SA contingent abound, but he had become an increasingly peripheral figure and at least the club will have a good chunk of salary to play with, the signing of Hastings from Glasgow being announced almost immediately. He doesn’t arrive until next year so unless there a short term replacement in mind, Gloucester will have to rely on the rapidly maturing Lloyd Evans and the very promising but not ready yet, George Barton.
It’s been a privilege to watch DC at Gloucester, but it was always likely to end prematurely. He’ll head off for one last big pay day, probably in Japan. Probably not Jersey, though.

Do we know why DC left, or is it one of those very rare, (nothing springs to mind) not allowed to say, departures ?

There was talk in Wales of a swoop for Jarrod Evans, but I imagine that would have been instead of Hastings rather than as well. Rather pleased it didn't happen as Wales still haven't decided the order of their best five outside halves (or scrum halves for that matter!) and the sixty cap rule is tough on young players.

Dc was brilliant on his day . Unfortunately he hasn’t had one for quite a long time so I won’t be shedding any tears .... it leaves glaws in the lurch short term though with twelve trees and Evans injured.

Replaced DC with the lad who scored for Georgia against Ireland, recently.

Lucky in the ballot this time, so off for some socially distanced European egg chasing this afternoon.

A good game to watch. Evans played very well. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of his season goes before the arrival of Hastings.
