Some of us said from the start that the atmosphere would be an issue this season. There is little singing and shouting at this level-just the occasional old blokes bellowing at the ref/striker/goalie. We are an anomaly, and that is why it is imperative that we get promoted, because the vast majority of our support won't stick the lack of 'match day magic ' for too long. Our fans are used to having some kind of repartee with the away support, it's a vital ingredient of 'proper' football. We have got to go up this season.

Not so much of the" occasional old blokes " Manners Timothy Apologies-it was badly worded...I didn't mean that the shouters were occasionally 'old blokes' and that the rest of the time they reverted to being thrusting, vibrant alpha males. I should have said that at this level (apart from ES obviously) that the average crowd is made up mostly of old blokes, who occasionally shout at ref/striker/goalie, and which shouting, sadly, constitutes the 'atmosphere'. Mostly (before the Hinckley Ultras shove there two pennorth in).

Imo the fans are as nervous as the players. It seems to be taking the players 20 minutes every game to get going. The fans react to that. I thought (not for the first time) the fans didn't really get going until we were one nil down.
Next Tuesday should be a better atmosphere as ES for some reason always seems "livelier" for a night game.

Perhaps we should ask for volunteers (with free entry) to go and stand in the away end and cheer for the away team and shout miscellaneous random phrases toward the ME?
'We're you, and we know you are' 'Can you hear us lot sing? No-oo, No-oo'' 'You can see us sneaking out'
I could go on....

I know, army, we could pay for a couple of coach loads of opposing fans to turn up to each match? For that money, though, they'd have to be prepared to give us the full 90-minute argument, not just 45 minutes. And give them a tenner bonus if they're prepared to argue pre-match or post-match in the bars?

(The Mike variety of Carter).
The winger has since gone down in posterity as F. H. Carter. He also used to f*** off over the other side.

Rightly or wrongly we rely on the Meadow End to get any singing going and it just ain't happening. The songs are so old and tired that no one bothers. The FC Manchester fans showed how to do it this season.

Perhaps thrusting equates to a wild stab in the dark or simply can't reach

I looked out at the empty Blackfriars yesterday and thought: "Damn, I miss the away fans, when they had the whole end. I even miss seeing how crazy they go when they score, and comparing how passionate each away following was. (As long as we scored one more, of course). OK all that was a while ago but boy, did it make for an atmosphere.) This. I still remember being in the Meadow End and watching the away section running towards the Blackfriars divide when Shrewsbury took the lead a few years ago. Remember Peterborough (?) throwing toilet roll or something on to the pitch when they got promoted at Edgar Street around that time too. Just got to get back up ASAP

The FC Manchester fans showed how to do it this season. The thing I remember most about the Mancs was that flag of theirs which seemed to have a life of it's own, including having to be retrieved from the pitch when it came off it's pole within the first three minutes of the match. It did it again later too!
