An English bloke I know supports Bordeaux and goes down there pretty much every other weekend. A few days ago he followed Bordeaux to Kazakhstan. He wasn't far from China. Bordeaux had won the first leg 1-0 but were 2-0 down in the second leg. There he was, one of seventeen Bordeaux fans (none of the others English as far as I know), surrounded by armed Kazakh police and thousands of Kazakh lads going bonkers. With ten minutes to go, Bordeaux scored. Through to the Europa League on away goals. Suddenly those armed police looked quite handily positioned and kitted out. He got back in one piece. Now that's reward for passionate support! (And I thought following Hereford to Hartlepool was the ultimate). Can anyone beat an away victory in Kazakhstan?

What, in Kazakhstan? I must have missed that one. Probably recovering from my kicking at Crystal Palace.

Met a bloke in san Marino on Saturday with a 98 England shirt on and red clogs with three lions hand painted on, got talking to him and he turned out to be Dutch but follows England home and away from Holland with his wife, reckoned he was a georg best fan and fell in love with English football in sixties, even though I pointed out that he was Irish, he even said to his wife's disgust that he hated Holland , he was quite bizarre
