That poor old bloke who just collapsed and smacked his head so hard on the concrete. I think he must have had a stroke and if he didn't he must have cracked his skull when he fainted. Heanor's medical man limped away and took an age to reach the office to call an ambulance (we had offered to do it but assumed he had a radio or direct line something). Amateur night. Ambulance was slow to arrive. I fear the worse, though I know he was alive after he fell.

He seemed to be there for ages, I was standing behind the goal and could see no movement at all from him. Wishing him all the best.

That was pretty horrific. I noticed the ambulance was still parked outside the gate after the game (assume it was the same one) - don't know if that's good or bad.
Hope he's okay.

After the game I spoke with a few of the people working at the club, it seems that no-one there knew who he was. They had a vague idea he lived "a couple of villages away" and as far as they could tell he was at the game alone. Its very sad but I guess like everyone I hope he ends up ok.

They were too slow to get help. I should have got straight on the mobile for an ambulance (regret it now), others offered too but the club official (or helper) who took charge said he'd got it covered but then was the least urgent "medical officer" (or whatever he was) I've ever seen. Three Hereford fans (I think) who seemed to know a bit about first aid tended to the guy and got him on his side. Hats off to them. When no ambulance appeared I went to the office to make sure help was on the way and they belatedly said it was. But the Heanor club bloke had taken what seemed like about five minutes to limp the hundred yards to the office from the place where the old boy had fallen down in the first place. Shambles, unfortunately. Small clubs (including us) have to have quick, urgent systems in place for this kind of thing. I don't know what Hereford's system is like but it has to be better than Heanor's. And Heanor looks like a great little club so I'm just trying to point out a deficiency that can be rectified.

Herefords is not as good as having ST Johns at hand, but unfortunately not this season though. Which is a good question. In previous seasons St Johns had always charged for there services, this is understandable, BUT this season (due to the circumstances) they offered there services FREE OF CHARGE so I was told, and the club turned them down! WHY? can someone find out, and if anyone wants to check this out,you could always go and visit them one evening and ask them for yourselves.

This thread is so damn sad. I keep thinking it's like some kind of bad dream that I imagined, but then it pops up again. Poor bloke.
I was a bit confused about St. Johns too, after all the fuss we made about them being cold shouldered by Lonsbar and co.

I have called Heanor "Ground Floor Flat" club number several times today and got no answer. Look, I'll be honest with you. I saw the guy fall and collide with the concrete. I'll be amazed if he survived. Hope I'm wrong! Maybe he is an ex-miner and made of granite! But if he died doing something he loved - having a pint and watching the footy - there are worse ways to go. And believe me I've seen worse ways to go. If it starts a debate about Hereford's "rapid response" at matches, it might even save a life down our way somewhere down the line. But yes, Dynamo, a sad thread. Just didn't think we should ignore it.

There was St Johns presence at the home match against Dunkirk for sure. A lad in B Block went out with heat stroke, and they took him away to a room beneath the stand. He was fine by 5pm btw. So unless the club have turned them down since then, your info is wrong.

There was indeed St Johns presence at Dunkirk, my wife whom is a nurse spoke to them.
I have asked a Director of HFC whom has advised that to the best of his knowledge St Johns did not and have not offered their services for free.
The Matchday Chief Steward and his deputy are responsible for providing suitable and adequate first aid facilities.
These facilities include sufficient first aiders, an on site doctor and equipment like a defibrillator etc.
These facilities were required to be in place to enable the ground safety certificate to be issued.
I am therefore happy with regards to Herefords position on this, although I hope and pray, none of the facilities are ever used.

They're not St. John's, they are volunteers with various experience in first aid.

Is my memory playing tricks or didn't they have to use the defibrillator on the ME a few seasons back and save some chaps life.

Fair enough mate, happy to be corrected, but there were some paramedics in a uniform of sorts, possibly green. I helped them carry the lad down the steps of B block. Obviously some other variety of medical helper. Whoever they were, they did a good job.

My concern is that St Johns is a very good organisation, if it is being offered FREE, then why have we not bitten there hand off? No disrespect, but if I needed medical help, I would prefer a member of St Johns knowing that they are well trained and constantly having their training reviewed, than someone who I do not no what they may or may not of been trained in.

gmu, jc has not answered my concerns. No ST Johns, when they offered there services free, why did the club not take up this offer of a professional organisation? instead of having some very basic trained personnel? JC, can that director be informed that this facility is open to the club, it will save them money when the stewards need to update their basic first aid certificates (even I have one of those). I won't mention this subject anymore, what the club does is obviously up to them.

The Director concerned has overall responsibility for Health and Safety included the Ground Safety of all within the facility. He delegates day to day responsibility to the Head Steward and his deputy on a match to match basis. The Director has advised he had no knowledge of the offer from St Johns and subsequently sought and obtained suitable facilities elsewhere.
