This is an unanswerable question because: a) what does greatest mean? - most gold medals, most world records, most sports competed in (you could argue Seb Coe is because not only did he win medals, but was an MP then in the Lords, headed the London Olympics and now is the most powerful man in athletics) - it all depends on the definition. b) there is a recency bias - the latest winner is better remembered that the sporting greats of the 19th Century c) how do you compare a great cyclist with a swimmer, with a running, with a basketball player?
Mo is great, but who knows if the greatest?
And what about great sportswomen?

Running isn't a sport, it's just a natural human action. There's no skill involved. If Brendan had said the greatest British runner of the modern day he might have had a point. Correct.
That's why purveyors of drugs target the sports which do not involve the application of skill. Hand eye co-ordination stuff for me.

... is what Brendan Foster just said about Mo Farah.
Do me a favour... I'm sure you'd think differently if Farah was Steve Cram. Although fair play to you as you're not afraid to air your discrimatory views in public. The word you are struggling with there is
"discriminatory".
I don't have any particular affinity with Cram. He is from the north-east.

That is a good point. Drug abuse was rife in my sport and that didn't involve any hand eye coordination. But hey we were young and they were heady days in Division Three of the Herefordshire District Pool League. Also you could get away with it as the drug testers just never came round either in or out of season, although I think they had to focus their limited resources on the elite athletes from the top flight to be fair.

Sir Chris Hoy...........THREAD CLOSED. Can we just accept that people who ride horses, bicycles or camels cannot be considered because they are cheating. And if you bottle your own Commonwealth Games then you're definitely out of the running...

The difference with Steve Redgrave is that he was part of a team, Mo does it all on his own. Not quite all on his own. What about his dealer, er I mean coach? Are you suggesting that Mo Farah takes drugs?

Henry Cooper. Floored Casius Clay, loved the great smell of Brut and showered with Kevin Keegan and his perm.

Mo Parrot has lost credability lately* and that is bound to reflect on his greatness

Stirling Moss? He was still motor-racing when he was about 70. (Classic cars, Silverstone)
