Sad to hear the news that Mick Mac is seriously ill in hospital in Newport. Suffers from dementia now too.
Great battler for HUFC in the early 70's. Tasked with marking Malcolm MacDonald in the Newcastle epic cup ties.
Understood to to have cried in the dressing room pre-match at Newcastle when Addison pulled a master stroke and told him we would be playing in the red shirts of his beloved Wales. MacDonald threatening to score 10. He didn't....
Mac also went into a match with a broken big toe and played throughout.
Best wishes from all former Hereford United supporters, of a certain age.

He also travelled back from Newcastle on the train with the fans because he was at work at the steelworks at 7.30 next morning. The team stopped over in an hotel. Great man and a great talker.

Sorry to hear he's not well. One of our greats. I wish him the very best. Not wishing to hijack the thread but if anyone is interested, here's an amazing charity that uses sporting memories to combat dementia and loneliness in old age. I never realised just how terrible this condition was until it effected my family. www.sportingmemoriesnetwork.com/smn/

Really saddened to read this news.
My thoughts go out to Mick and his family along with those of all other Bulls fans of a certain age.

Such a solid, dependable player, all the best to Mick and those looking after him. Went to North America for a while, didn't he? Great character.

Absolute class act, solid defender with a fair amount of skill.
Best wishes to Mick and his family.

Makes you think that those heavy old leather footballs did some damage. Like poor Jeff Astle - and probably many others. Best wishes to a HUFC great.

Sad news but this is still today's top thread for me, despite the significance of some of the others.
Sincere best wishes to Mick, his family and friends at this difficult time, really hope things start looking up soon. Many thanks for being the Hereford legend, on and off the park, that he is and always will be, from all Under the Arches.

I was the first person Mick spoke to after that goal by Ronnie - words to the effect of: "Get of the f**** pitch"........ Happy days!

Just the sort of dependable defender we could do with now. Sad to hear of his illness.

Really sorry to hear this. As a young youth in the early 70s he was my hero. Loved watching him and watching visiting strikers bounce off of him. I hope he recovers.
