GK: Harvey Rivers is to small to claim balls in the air and isn't even confident enough to try, either we bulk him up or bring in a new keeper, asap.
RB: Max Kontic is quick, strong and very good on the ball but when going forward he looks very sheepish and always backs out of attacking the full back, he needs a lot more confidence. Sam Gwynne is much more confident on and off the ball, especially when attacking the opposite full back but he lacks any aerial or physical presence so he will struggle winning any ball that is hit down the line. Jimmy Oates has only played 1 full game so far and in that game he played out of position so I don't find it fair to make a proper judgement on him.
CB: Tony James looks off the pace which is expected at his age and he lacks a proper aerial presence which is one of the main reason our defence has been so poor but when working the ball from out of the back him and his partner (usually Summers) work the ball out quite well, apart from when he tries to do defence splitting balls which haven't really come off so far. Nathan Summer looks slightly better in the air than James and is also a lot quicker, which is expected as he's about 20 years younger than James. Summers is a lot like James in the way he like to play out of the back apart from Summers like to play simpler ball to the likes of Purdie or Bonella. Will Hains can play both CB and CM so I'd like to see where Beadle thinks he will fit in the best but as Hains hasn't played in the league as of yet I would find it hard to make a proper judgement but in the few pre-season games I saw him play in he looked quite decent and could fit in well in either position.
LB: Joel Edwards looks very confident at the back defending and attacking the opposite full back, he is very quick and very strong and he seems to be the only one of our back 4 that can actually win an aerial challenge consistently.
CM: Rob Purdie has been very impressive so far controlling the midfield and grabbing himself a few goals, he has is one of the only players who I cant really find anything wrong with. Dylan Bonella hasn't played much but when he has hes done a decent job in the deep lying position but we don't need him to play that role we need him to play the role of winning the back and playing it forward but he doesn't sit deep enough to do this and he isn't big and strong enough to win the ball so if we do pick up a player who can do this job then I cant really see a place in the squad for him. Aaron Birch has been getting a lot of hype due to the fact he's played regularly at a much higher level but I haven't seen anything to suggest to me that he's any better than anyone else in the squad and for the anchor sort of role he's been playing I beleive his far to small and not strong enough to do it effectively. Dean Lee has only played half a game and if that 45 minuets he wasn't in the game at all and he didn't show me anything to suggest that can offer anything to the squad. Josh Emery has been injured since pre-season so he hasn't appeared in the league as of yet but in the Malvern and United of Manchester game he ran around giving it all until after the final whistle and in the Malvern game he showed that give a bit of time and space he can pick out anyone on the pitch and as long he shows up for the games and training sessions and continues to give it his all then I can honestly say that he can do a decent job in the squad.
RW/LW: Sol Wheatly looks decent on the ball but he doesn't have any passing ability and doesn't know when to release the final ball but if we bring him on as an impact sub I can see him causing the opposition defence a lot of problems. Ben Miller likes to keep beating the opposite defender a lot simpler with a few weaving runs but no step overs or any of that crap and his first touch is impeccable and I can see him being our staring winger with Page on the other flank. Adam Page looks very tricky and very determined and I honestly believe he's been one of our best players especially against Rocester where he spurred on a great come back. Carlos Moreira hasn't appeared in the league as of yet but I've heard very good things about him and in the future he can defiantly be a good player down the wing if we manage to keep a hold of him.
ST: John Mills has already shown that he can score a lot of goals if he gets the correct supply as he has already gotten us 5 in 5. With him, Pablo and Hughes I believe we have the best strike force in this league and maybe even the one above. He's been getting a lot stick for not challenging in the air and just letting the defender to clear it but if you look at the size of him compared to the 2 other CBs you can see why he doesn't both, he's not a target man, he's a poacher which is why we need to start Hughes up top to be a sort of target man and offer us a different approach if needed. Pablo Heysham is one of our best players, he links everything up going forward and always chases the defenders when they have the ball, he rooms about looking for the ball into feet so he can either take a defender or two or he looks to feed in another player. He will be the to our success going forward. Nathan Hughes is much taller than both Mills and Pablo and is the only one out of the three that could potentially challenge in the air and he has already gotten us 2 very good goals and one brilliant assist, he looks superb. Tom Gameson hasn't played yet but just like Moreira I have heard a lot of good things and if we can tie him down then he will be very good for us in the future.
Although the start could have been better, we have shown a lot of goal scoring potential and as long as we sure up our defence we should be okay for the season and we could even push for promotion. But this is only the start.
