There can be a variation in approach to defending. We can surely find a tall, well built central defender who has the ability to take charge of the area and does not seek to play it out of defence all of the time. For the risk of comparing past players I mean somebody like Ian Wright who complimented Tony James for years. There must be that style of player, albeit at a lower level. In midfield we could do with a John Snape who wins the ball and motivates those around him. He knew when to clear his lines as well as I remember the ball in Len Weston Stand a few times when needed. We have enough good footballers in the squad to attack the opposition in a creative manner. It just needs to be balanced a little bit more at this level. The team has to win matches in order to progress and we cannot be praised for good fooball at the expense of losing to teams who quite frankly are of significantly less footballing ability. With gates like ours there has to be a bit in the kitty to strengthen our squad at this level, before the fans lose heart. It will not require huge sums to put it right. The wage will tip the balance rather than the standard I feel. I reckon the goalkeeper is a good shot stopper but needs more support/ cover in the box--hence the need for a taller, powerful central player.

If we can't find the resources to get in better defenders and a keeper than we have now then hope of promotion and the crowds that brings will soon disappear. Beadle can do all he can with the current incumbents in that defence but as far as I know he can't make any of them taller! The message that we can't defend must be out there now so we can expect more aerial bombardment from now on.

If everything suddenly clicks in the next game and they go on a nice, long run, then happy days, otherwise plan b needs to be put in place sooner rather than later.
