...4062-2717....
are presumably down to the Dunkirk re-appearance of G. Turner? Commercial Department should have beached him.
Come to think of it, he's only 67. Known former player, couple of weeks of training, he could shore up that defence. Surely?

Have you still got your size "7's" available?

I too thought it a strange move to bring GT back as guest of honour for that first match. Classic Organic photo of the 'great and the good' front row of the stand. GT at one end (with wife not Joan?) and Martin Watson/Andrew Munsley as far away as possible at the other end! All forgiven now? Noticed also Blandford tucked behind everyone but one eye on the camera. Didn't he have a falling out with GT also? Strange bit of PR.

A lot would have turned up against Dunkirk because of the occasion. TBH I thought last nights attendance all considered some of the away performances, Tuesday night etc, was very good.

Excellent attendance of 2,717 but a different type of supporter now. You wouldn't want to be a football connoisseur of you'd be reaching for a rope. It's different.

I didn't go as I was supporting the England blind team against Germany, so you just need to account for the other 1344 now.
For what it's worth, I didn't expect the attendance to be that high.

I think the gate was always going to drop and I would have estimeted 2500 - 3000 before the game. There was a massive novelty factor to the Dunkirk game. The first league game for the new club, the chance to see the first goal, the first win and just in years to come to be able to say "I was there" Add to that the curiosity factor and you have all the ingredients to bring in lots of people that aren't going to be there week in week out. The trick I guess is to get as many of those people as possible to want to come back enough times over the season to keep it all going.
I thought last nights attendance was a good effort by all who came to be fair.

I'm amazed at the gate too, genuinely thought it'd be around the 1300-1500 mark. Impressive stuff once again. I'm not sure how long it'll last but its all money in the bank.

I was attempting to be just a tad ironic. Somebody is always referring to the "missing 1000."
The gate was about what I expected. Sadly, it will prove to be the second biggest of the season.

Yes, and after their fifth goal, the eerie quiet in the meadow end was a tad unsettling from where I was sitting in G block.
It was somewhat compensated for by the noise that erupted as we chased that elusive equaliser in the last few minutes after the penalty.
Or was that panic and the fear that "they" might waltz up the pitch and score a sixth or possibly a seventh goal before full time.
What a crazy night!

Then, it probably did not go unnoticed that our first goal was amazingly not disallowed? Hughes was four yards from the linesman, and four yards offside. One of the most bewildering oversights ever?
Imagine 600 Oxford fans behind the lino, like the ones who greeted sub Tim "Nice But Dim" Sills when he waddled over to exactly the same spot one Saturday afternoon.
He decided to have a word with them, didn't he? Came back straightaway swearing he hadn't sworn at them.

Well, yes, but to be fair, we never played to his strengths...

Well, that "offside" to which you refer was difficult to spot from G block. But as Brendan Rogers will testify, they all count, or not, as Arsene Wenger will also testify. In truth, there were times last night when I saw some similarity between HFC and Arsenal. Lots and lots of pretty footwork, posession and endeavour, just too few goals. Coleshill similarly struck me as looking like Sunderland on a very very lucky night.

Whole game it was quiet, even by us (we were stood right behind the goalpost). Only time anyone perked up was when we were losing, much like the players. Again an occasion where most aren't 'loyals', a lot of people just there for something to do, not there to get behind the team. Is what it is though, these are the types the club needs to attract in order to make £££.

Re the Dunkirk gate, that was always gonna be bigger than normal, judging by the UK wide sellers of programmes for it on Fleabay also very attractive for groundhoppers etc too, esp given the timing (holiday season etc).
However fwiw I'd have still predicted an easy 2500 for next game and so should the club. I don't know the background facts/thinking but I cannot see the "logic" of using the ticket booth system as a huge % of those going would not have expected it or seen the announcements on BN etc, this is Edgar Road not the NGM ffs. But hey, as usual, what do I know?. I'm old enuff to recall routinely paying cashongate at Wembley for important International fixtures.
