I'm getting worried about Alvechurch and maybe it's me and my typical negative attitude but I can see Alvechurch just about beating us and going up. Are people still confident we will win the league or still concerned about Alvechurch?

As a player you need to be positive and as a spectator you need to be the same mate. Whose shoes would you rather be in- ours or the chasers?

This ^^^^ I'm looking forward to the 23rd of January just as much as Boxing Day, the meadowend will be the 12th man and we'll have 3 more points in the bag. Alvechurch are decent enough but on our day we're unbeatable at this level.

We are not playing as well without Page in the side.Do we wait and see if we can put a number of points on the board through January or do we add a wide player sooner rather than later ?.

Worry about HFC and let Alvechurch worry about Alvechurch. Both sides will screw up at some point but at the minute HFC have the points on the board.

Ten points from the Alvechurch and Khalsa games should see us through...

I think come the end of the season we should win the league by 10 points. It is good that we have Alvechurch keeping us honest, but when it comes to the crunch we should kick on.

It's becoming clear that Alvechurch are 'best of the rest', but I don't believe we have played anywhere near our full potential yet, and Alvechurch will wonder what's hit them as HFC will be fully focused for what is effectively the title deciders.

I wouldn't write off Sporting Khalsa just yet. IIRC they have spent some serious money for this season. And while there's a long, long way to go I have a hunch that postponed games, cup matches and the inevitable fixture backlogs that they cause might undo both Alvechurch & S Khalsa. But if my hunch is wrong it could keep the league interesting for a while longer.

I have a lot of respect for Alvechurch who weren't tipped at all before the season IIRC. They are definitely punching above their weight. Our games with them will IMO be the title deciders with Khalsa and honourable third.
A word of warning: never underestimate the opposition. But then I'm sure PB knows that!

Agreed - the table doesn't lie and Alvechurch will overtake us if they get 7 points from their 3 games in hand. On 23rd, it only takes a few nerves in front to of a big crowd, a dodgy refereeing decision and we could be struggling, especially if they score first. Alvechurch will come here with a "nothing to lose" attitude and know the pressure of expectation is on us. Hopefully our players will be up for it and the 3 points will be ours, but realistically I don't think this is guaranteed !

I'd still rather have the points on the board.
But back to the OP, yes.

We are not playing as well without Page in the side.Do we wait and see if we can put a number of points on the board through January or do we add a wide player sooner rather than later ?. I don't think Page is a factor here. Its more to do with the ropey pitches we all expected to get at this time of year.

It is all about opinions but in the days of far from perfect pitches clubs who believed in playing football the right way would do so. Having width is important on any given surface.

As long as Alvechurh have got most of their layers on loan from Birmingham City they will be a major threat.
Has anyone done any anorakesque investigation on the calibre of the players? Any with FL experience? If so at this level that would be a big advantage. We may have to out spend them if it looks tight after January and we are still in all the cups.

I don't believe any of the other teams in this league are serious competition. I don't even think the teams we'll face next year in the Southern League South & West will be serious competition either. Look at how other phoenix clubs have got on since reforming. They've pissed the tinpot leagues at steps 5 and 4 and only found it tougher once they've got to step 3, ie Conference South. Correct me if I'm wrong but surely the conf north/south would be level 2.
