The Guardian newspaper, whose founders' wealth was generated through links to transatlantic slavery, sparked the debate with an article claiming that the ships shown on the City and United badges could be considered an 'emblem of a crime against humanity'.

What has slavery got to do with the Windrush generation? Why make the association unless you are trying to conflate two entirely different scenarios for mischievous (being generous here) purposes.

Pick a topic that is a bit edgy ✅ Ideally something that could be to do with racial tensions ✅ Present in a way that leaves it dangling and will hopefully rile a few people up ✅ Let the mayhem commence ✅ Get oneself on a war footing with all comers ✅

No 31 in an unlimited series. As another enlightened poster correctly ventured, ‘yawn’. You're a bit dim, aren't you? It's the wokes airing the grievance. The enlightened poster who called me a racist. Yes, that's him. Or is it her? "Why can't the King apologise for slavery, asks the former journalist Laura Trevelyan (report, April 15th). Perhaps because his great-great-great-grandfather has already done so. Prince Albert made a very full apology in a speech to the Society for the Abolition of Slavery on June 1st, 1840, six years after BRITAIN had abolished slavery throughout its Empire. To repeat an apology implies that the previous one was insincere and Prince Albert's was anything but that, being most heartfelt."Michael Cole BBC TV court correspondent, 1985-88. (Or has Gary Lineker already acquainted you with this axiomatic bit of history?) A bit dim? Wounded, hope I get through the trauma, but why the ‘?’ ? Because you don’t quite believe it, or lack the courage to say it outright? Something that applies to much of your work on here.

The Guardian - who'd have thought it?

"The Premier League giants' badges both feature three-masted ships - an emblem of the city and more specifically a tribute to the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894.
But Left-wingers say the ship, a symbol of the city also carved into the town hall and the city council's crest, symbolises the slave trade."
Say the Guardian.
"Three masts", you see? I'll take you through it all as slowly as I can.
Mind you, I'm off to the football at Edgar Street today to watch a "moribund" football club play against Bradford Piss Artists. I can let you have directions if you ask nicely?
