…….yes, and the truth of that event has morphed, somehow, into a new historical myth.

.....The Windrush on those Manchester shirts... Obviously well aware of the Windrush, but not sure of the context of your post. Would you like to enlighten us?

I usually assume that people on here are up to date with current affairs. Second item on BBC news yesterday, radio and television, for several hours. There is now much discontent that both Manchester United and Manchester City carry logos on their shirts which depict a ship. This is thought by the malcontents to be too acquiescent in the slave trade. Obviously.

While I would like to spend hours following the news to enable me to pompously pontificate to general indifference on the message board of a moribund Non league football club, sadly I had work and life to attend to. But thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to elaborate. Not sure it was worth it, but whatever floats your boat.

Certain matters are stopping me getting on with my former life, actually.

If I were you I would stop cruising around, get your plimsolls on, give up drinking port, and funnel all your energies into avoiding having to walk the plank. Or you could simply hide below deck. Or in the hold. As a last resort, try getting onto the bridge. But avoid cabin fever at all costs.....

My home City of Liverpool could find itself flattened by these holier than thou, crazed ideologues, temperamentally drawn to issues that make themselves feel good about themselves. Pier Head, the Albert Docks and the Liver building are all prime targets for these poor oppressed souls who desperately want to muscle in on an ever increasing list of those who for one reason or another feel they’ve been oppressed by some tyrannical white patriarchy that’s the source of all the worlds sins. An image of a ship today it may be. But tomorrow and thereafter it’ll be some other dreadful symbol that’ll have us all going along with this socially engineered madness brought about by people who are afforded the privilege of never having to think or research anything and instead blindly join an ideology that gives them the sense of belonging to a herd of other idiots. Haven't they ruined the waterfront already to nip that nonsense in the bud?

You're a bit dim, aren't you? It's the wokes airing the grievance. The enlightened poster who called me a racist. Yes, that's him. Or is it her? "Why can't the King apologise for slavery, asks the former journalist Laura Trevelyan (report, April 15th). Perhaps because his great-great-great-grandfather has already done so. Prince Albert made a very full apology in a speech to the Society for the Abolition of Slavery on June 1st, 1840, six years after BRITAIN had abolished slavery throughout its Empire. To repeat an apology implies that the previous one was insincere and Prince Albert's was anything but that, being most heartfelt."Michael Cole BBC TV court correspondent, 1985-88. (Or has Gary Lineker already acquainted you with this axiomatic bit of history?)

The “wokes”?
Whole thing strikes me as a touch of mischief written by a bored journalist, seized upon and grossly distorted by elements of the media for click bait.
Still not sure what this has to do with Windrush. At least, I hope I’m not sure. I’ve a nasty feeling I do know why the OP has made the association.
Not good.
