I don't think I've ever refered to them as the bulls, chanting or otherwise. I think it has always been just the programme, the badge, and the on line/fanzine stuff. The Bull is definitely part of it all, but yeah never been a chant has it? Come on You Whites has just been replaced with Come on Hereford.

Looking at those kits, three players spring to mind: Frank McGrellis wearing the Admiral 1978-80. Nicky Cross wearing the Matchwinner 1993-94. John Snape wearing the M&M Sports 1998-2000. To quote Harry Worth; I don't know why, but there it is!

This chant still appears so a little confused.
Memorable for the comic individual 'you whites' added at the end.

It's obviously Free Verse. Back in the day, it would have been recited by elderly, trilby wearing, pipe smoking gentlemen. They would point the mouth end of the pipe towards you when emphasising an alliteration. Truth be told Eggy, you, me and a good few others on here are probably older now than the 'elderly, trilby wearing, pipe smoking gentlemen' were, back in the day. Couldn't agree more, deano; I remarked on another thread that they were only in their mid 20s but that times were hard, then. As for the trilbys, I don't know why they wore those, but if you look at the photos of "fan of the week" from the 70s, that WL buts on Bulls News, there are an awful lot of people in suits and ties. Makes my Skinners, Harrington and Monkey Boots look positively tramp-like. Anyway, back to the chants; I was listening to some Kinks albums, this morning, and the song "Dead End Street" reminded me of this chant to its music: What are we living for (clap, clap) To see United in Division four Obviously pre 1972.

You get the occasional "Come on You Whites" still accompanied by a bit of "You Whites" echo. That though has been replaced by "Come on Hereford" as the momentum battle cry hasn't it? "Come on Hereford" is heard far more often than "Come on You whites" . As you say, this appears to have replaced it. There is a place for both, but prefer to hear "Come on You whites", as it comes across better as the words are held longer, compared to the rather short and sharp, "Come on Hereford".

Not keen on the ‘come on Hereford’, it sounds more like ‘com’n airryfurred’ to me.

The best song over the past few years has been
“Number one,is Jimmy Oates” etc.
I always wanted to join in but could never remember the words.

I used to like the Ryan Green one about a Taffy on the wing and Wayne Brown is Superman.

I used to like the Ryan Green one about a Taffy on the wing and Wayne Brown is Superman. They were heady days in terms of player songs. Personally, I liked the John McCombe song which was sang, obviously, to the tune of Rock and Roll by the late, great Gary Glitter.

At Darlington, his ‘mates’ sang ‘he’s short, he’s thick, he’s got a tiny d*ck, Andy Ferrell, Andy Ferrell.

To more accurately represent the present state of Hereford city centre it should surely be "Come on you Lilly Turkish barber Eastern European mini market Asian nail bar Whites"

When did HUFC/HFC become known as The Bulls? Just glanced at a few old HTs online (random dates as I don’t have the time for all of them). Obviously HT will be more formal but it seems like they referred to the club as Hereford United/The United up until somewhere around 58/59. Somewhere between Jan 58 and Dec 59 they start referring to the club as Hereford United/United. None of the match reports I looked at mentioned The Bulls. I did find an article about a bull mascot being christened in Jan 58 though. It confirms we had a bulls head on the kits by then as well.

I'm from the Whites generation - never The Bulls. (also remember bulls with horns - we went polled in the 1980s and then dehorned traditional later on.) www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3598891

I guess now we just need to bring back the united then (and the pre-match Hereford steaks, preferably from the ME food kiosk)

Hereford steaks as their pre-match diet eh? Where did it all go wrong?
