I can’t remember ever walking out early.
Missed a few goals while having a P mind.
Knew I shouldn’t have turned around to face that little hole at the back of The Meadow End.

We had quite a few walk out at Northampton at half time a few years back. 3-0 down and was only going to get worse.
Glad I stayed.

I walked out early when we got hammered 4-1 at Rochdale when Tucker was manager. Preferred it in the pub beforehand.
Strangely didn't walk out at the 7-1 boxing day reverse at Mansfield.

I remember a Tottenham game away against Everton one Saturday late in December, 0-3 up at half time. When the fourth goal went in mid way through the second half there was a mass surge of home fans towards the exits to which the Tottenham fans began singing "is there a fire drill" followed shortly by "you should 'ave gone Christmas shopping"

More money than sense, clearly. I did it in our League One season when Hooper was taking the piss for Scunthorpe. I completely lost it. Couldn't hack it. Shouted something incoherent to Turner (who was quite rightly unaware of my madness) and stropped off back to the pub. A fond memory. Edit: having looked it up I think it was around the 60 minute mark, so not quite as outrageous as I had thought. My memory made it seem like I walked in, sat down, Hooper scored a four in ten minutes and I walked out. |

Probably will get a lot of stick, but yes, I`ve walked out early quite a few times, home and away. Scunthorpe, this season, I left at half time, even Crewe away, years ago, losing 4 - 0 at half time, went to the pub.
I will not stay and moan about the performance, some may boo, but I will leave, not all the time, just on our worst days. If you go to the cinema and the film is crap, you won`t stay to the end, I just want to be entertained. I look forward to the match all week, my leisure time is important to me, after "grafting" all week, so match days are my drug of choice, mixed with copious pints of cider!! When we win, you get the buzz all week, when you get hammered, there`s a grey cloud following you round.

I've never done it, don't think i ever will. Totally understand why some do but I'll always stay to the bitter end. And probably regret it.

Was at both those. A lot left early at Slough, the bin carrier would have struggled to run along the terrace earlier. Only time I left seriously early was half time against Southport in the post Beadle chaos days. We were down to 10 men and 0-2. My post match train was delayed so I left and caught an earlier one. Lost 0-3 so didn't miss out on a famous comeback. |

December 1971, United v Northampton, FA Cup 2nd round 2nd replay at The Hawthorns. A mate had gone up with some his older work colleagues in a car, and they went into one of the stands.
About 85 minutes gone, United 1 - 0 down, they decided to leave to beat any traffic; of course, Ken Mallender equalised for United in injury time and they went on to win, setting up the 3rd round tie v Newcastle.
If ever I'm tempted to leave before the end, I just visualise my mate's face when we were telling him, virtually every day for the next few years, of the fantastic Brummie Road end support from United fans right through to injury time and beyond, and the noise and joy we experienced when the equaliser went in.
