Daltrey was never a mod. He did look great for a few years though. Townsend wasn't your archetypal mod either, more of a piled up art-school bod. Townsend was certainly the boss, created a lot of the output alone. One listen to any of the Townsend Who demos shows he'd have never made it without Daltrey (or indeed Moon and Entwistle). As Townshend would no doubt say himself.
Daltrey went from being, if not a so so brit rnb singer, a not especially great one, to being one of the best singers of the era in a couple of years. The creative talent was all Townshend but without Daltrey the band would have just had potential.

My point exactly. Is this really a valid poll?

Manufactured Mods who were late on the scene but a truly brilliant band nonetheless.

I'm just saying the mod bit is open to debate. Apologies because a thread titled "Is Roger Daltrey a Mod ?" could potentially be a 168 pager.

No worries beans no offence taken, I should've put a smiley face at the end :-) I'd always assumed they were at the forefront of the mod scene back then. Paul Weller's definitely mod of the year. I don't even know what jc and Psychedelic Tony look like, do they even ride Vespas?

This is a very amusing thread because people are confusing the abbreviation for "Moderator" with a popular youth culture movement of the 1970s. Well done everyone!

You're a bit confusing for me as well-there is a night manager where I work called Richard Watts (genuinely), but he lives in Hunstanton, so presumably not you... This rambling post will fall apart quite rapidly if you are using a nom de plume, by the way.

'Let my love open the door' is brilliant though.

Paul Weller is a nom de plume I use so all votes for him are by right, mine, meaning I win. I am a Jammy bugger I know.
Thanks to all whom voted for me especially JD!
