As soon as I saw this thread I knew there'd be numbnuts saying how Andy Murray has no personality. It might seem like that to people who pay no attention whatsoever. However, the guy's hilarious if you do pay any attention whatsoever. He's got a great dry wit, enhanced by the way it sounds in his voice. He's one of those people that has the ability to make fun of himself, which deserves a lot of respect. He's also so passionate about what he does, and his emotions have been clear to see on many an occasion. He'd be a bit too subtle for one or two of the above. Great player in a tough era. Great personality.

Every time you see a picture of him on court his face is contorted with rage, his mouth set to a permanent snarl, always swearing and arguing with the officials when he doesn't get his way. He didn't even win Wimbledon this year, the only tennis competition anyone cares about, so what has he done to deserve an award?

Don't forget that the public voted for him, so a lot of people disagreed with you.

Just the same as richardwatts is half of your usernames.
He won't be able to practise at the Sports Club any longer, will he? It's closed.

Serious question. Why do intelligent people who know full well that richardwatts is a WUM with more than one username still persistently bite on his obvious bait?

The one with the biggest personality and punched well above his weight was the obvious winner but we all know if you don't tow the line with the do-gooders you're unlikely to be allowed into the limelight

On that basis, and assuming you're alluding to our heavy-weight boxing champion, are you suggesting the voting is rigged or are you suggesting that those who voted are wrong if they felt that maybe his recent comments should somehow prevent him from being compared to Cooper, Faldo, Botham, Redgrave, Flintoff, Wilkinson and, oh yeah, Anne.Bloody hell you have finally restocked your fish tank.

Thats the problem, they should scrap the public vote. the rugby bloke who came second had a twitter campaign going, he got over 200,000 votes. im not a rugby fan, never heard of him.
greg rutherford got about 25,000 votes. im not a fan of athletics, but I've heard of him and his achievements.
Scrap the public vote and change the name, it should be about achievement not personality.

I'm surprised no one on here started a campaign to have Andy Munsley elected sports personality of the year.

Pretty sure Fury came 4th? As others have mentioned, as public vote is pretty much as fair as it can get. I was surprised Sinfield came second but you can't deny his accomplishments as one of the greats of British rugby league (and I also no jack all about rugby league generally). It always has been a popularity contest and that's the whole reason for it surely?
