Premiership rugby recommences tonight, every game being shown live by BT on the tellybox. Channel 5 is also showing some live games, starting tomorrow afternoon with Exeter v Leicester.
I'm hoping that the referees will police the breakdown in the way that New Zealand referees have been policing it down there; it has made for a much faster and open game. Not holding my breath.
All being completed by October 4th, 9 games for each club in 50 days; that may not sound a lot to people who have only played football, but at a decent level of rugby, that hurts. In amongst these games, 5 of the clubs have to fit in possibly 2 European Champions cup games, and then possiby the final a fortnight after the season ends.
So much for player welfare, eh?
Anyway, I've just cleaned my boots; just in case there are so many injuries that they need to recruit from lower down the barrel. After 50 years of trying, I may finally get my elite level debut.

How are any of these sports going to survive without fans?
Worcestershire have been playing County Championship Cricket. There is surely no real income for that? BBC Radio can't pay a lot. The recent game the Glamorgan squad stayed in Tewkesbury. That must cost a fortune with food.
The 20/20 will follow at some point, and that must have some value TV wise, but those attendances underpin the rest of the club.
Are Rugby TV rights worth much?

The TV money is nothing if you compare it to the amount that football generates, but it all helps. A lot of rugby clubs have diversified in the past and rented out their grounds for conventions etc, which helped a great deal with income.
Obviously that's not happening now, so there is a risk that rich owners will get fed up of reaching deeper into their own pockets and walk away, leaving some clubs to go to the wall.
To be honest, I'm not sure that I'd shed a tear for these clubs. There are a number of clubs who are only at elite level because of their owners' largesse (or hubris), and not because of the support that they can generate. These clubs generally push up the player salaries for all clubs to levels that can only be artificially maintained.
Anyway, I've got my copy of ShedHead* to read, now, before settling down to watch Worcester v Glos.
* ShedHead, the Gloucester fanzine that was required reading before each Glos game from about 25 years ago. Most irreverent fanzine I've ever read, absolutely mullered everone and everything, especially other teams (mainly Bath). They've just decided to resurrect it, occasionally, for charitable donations. Brilliant

Skivington does in his first game what Ackerman and Fisher could never manage. A Prem win at Sixways. Not just a win too. A solid gold bonus point thrashing.
Warriors didn’t help themselves (or rather their rather brainless FB didn’t) but still.
Enjoyed that in a fashion I never managed not from the comfort of my own home.

Who's been giving that FB tackling lessons, Jackie Pallo?
He made a similar attempt on, I think, Ollie Thorley, earlier, and also on Jake Polledri about 10 seconds after his assault on Jonny May.

Jackie TV Pallo. That’s a blast from the past.
Tougher game ahead on Friday, but I think, despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, that the departure of the SA cabal may prove to be a good thing. There’s been many painful changes at Castle Grim, but hard to argue that the club didn’t need a boot up the backside. Skivington may, just May, be an inspired appointment.

That was the best day since the pandemic started ! So so so good to watch glaws again even if it was from the sofa ! Very happy with 5 points. Yes wuss had a red (absolutely deserved) but who knows how it would have gone if they’d kept 15 on the pitch. Bring on Briz !

Yep, very satisfying. For some inexplicable reason, Glos have never played very well at Sixways; it's actually been 9 years since the previous win.
I think Hereford have won at Worcester more times than Glos; certainly the punch-ups.

Impressive, 4 tries inside half an hour, even if it was against the Tiggers' reserve team. He has exceptional talent, and seems to have put on some extra muscle during lockdown without losing any pace.

In the ballot so fingers crossed.
Would be great to see some live sport again even if the crowd is likely to be more like that for an A Team game.
Re last night, I have never enjoyed a defeat more. Full strength Exeter team, and our academy kids went toe to toe. Real commitment shown

All seated, suited and booted.
Very well organised. The club have an app which allows you to order drink which is brought to your seat. About 1K in the ground using half the main stand (every other row with social distancing) and one section of the smaller Stowford Press stand.
Had to get tickets through a ballot, print off and produce in entry with photo ID. Required to mask up throughout (save when eating or drinking)
So so good to be back.
